One my favorite things about BlackBerry over the years has been the ability to pop in a fresh battery once your current gets depleted. Sure, we could always charge the one that we're using, but that takes too long. There are few greater feelings than going from a dying battery to a fully charged one with just a battery pull.
With the BlackBerry Z10 this has been an extremely important factor. As you'll notice on our Z10 review, battery on the first BlackBerry 10 device isn't great. Yes, it has gotten better with some OS updates, but it is still not great. Thankfully, we've had accessories like the charging bundle, and extra batteries to help us keep moving.
BlackBerryOS has learned that with future BlackBerry devices, like the rumored R-Series, and the mythical "Aristo," BlackBerry will be dropping the removable back and battery. In fact, according to our sources, the BlackBerry Q10 will be the last BlackBerry device with a removable battery this year.
How big are the batteries that these future devices will be packing? Although there are a couple of different battery sizes being tested, the more probable answer is 1800mAh for the R and 2100 to 2400mAh for the Aristo. In internal tests, the BlackBerry R-Series doesn't even make it a full 8 hours without needing to be charged. The Aristo does fair a little bit better for a larger size display. Hopefully between now and then, BlackBerry can make the necessary improvements in the OS to maximize battery life.
