• Mystery Solved: Why PlayBook OS 2.0.1.668 Was Pulled

Last Thursday, Research In Motion announced their new 4G PlayBook tablet and pushed a new update for their WiFi-enabled PlayBooks as well. This new update, version 2.0.1.668, was not the 2.1 update we all hoped for, but nevertheless we were excited to get an update.

Some time after though, users reported they weren't able to update to this new OS and many wondered what had happened.

In a statement regarding the missing update, RIM responded:

"RIM discovered an issue with the PlayBook software 2.0.1.668 update. The update has been removed. Customers that have already successfully updated to version 2.0.1.668 are not affected and can continue using their PlayBook with the updated software."

The update didn't really bring anything new to the table for PlayBook users so those that weren't able to update aren't really missing anything. Hopefully they can just get 2.1 ready and send us that update soon instead.
