Major League Baseball and BlackBerry will be teaming up this afternoon to run a promotion exclusively for MLB's Twitter followers. From 12:00pm to 4:00pm, the official @MLB Twitter account will be closed to new followers so that it's existing 2.9 million followers can take part in the exclusive trivia contest.
Participants will have the chance to win many different prizes, including tickets to the 2013 World Series, BlackBerry Z10 smartphones, tickets to a game of the winner's choice, $100 gift cards to MLB.com's shop, and MLB.TV premium annual subscriptions.
When speaking about the contest, VP of Corporate Communications at MLB Matthew Gould said "It's about rewarding our followers with unique opportunities to engage with our brand, our partner, and win great prizes,".
As you know, Major League Baseball and BlackBerry have a great partnership. Late last year, MLB emailed their subscribers with BlackBerry 10 teasers, and they have also done a great job on the MLB.com At Bat '13 app.
As you can see from the picture above, the MLB Twitter account has sent out a few tweets hinting about the upcoming contest. It's interesting to note the #mlBBtakeover hashtag, which will be used to promote today's giveaways.
