With the announcement and excitement of the launch of the BlackBerry Z10 for the world, came the damper that the Z10 will not be available in the US until March. This is puzzling because the Z10 will be available to most everyone else in the next few days and weeks.
The question needs to be asked, why are the US carriers dragging their feet? Thorsten Heins , BlackBerry CEO, blamed the delay on the time it takes for US carriers for testing. "They do the best they can," Mr. Heins said. "Would I have loved to see it earlier? Absolutely. Make no mistake everyone's trying to pull the date in."
Verizon, ATT, Sprint and T-Mobile have not really specifically confirmed an availability date other than to vaguely say “March availability.” This is very disturbing because the success of the newly renamed BlackBerry is dependant on the big market the US and the profits that it can bring, especially with the upcoming Super Bowl and BlackBerry’s first Super Bowl ad.
Still this doesn’t make the waiting any easier for you or me in the US market. Even though details came out from the different carriers on their plans for the Z10, no one gave a firm date for the release of the Z10
Verizon plans of a price of $199 w/contract plus the exclusivity of an all white Z10 model. Verizon also plans to carry the Q10 when it becomes available. Sprint says they plan on only carrying the QWERTY Q10 model. AT&T has stated that they will carry both the Q10 and the Z10 but released no more information. Lastly, T-Mobile said that they’ll carry the Z10 but have no plans on selling the Q10.
So yes, it sucks to have to wait. But will this hurt the overall success of the BlackBerry 10 phone? I have mixed emotions on this. On one hand, I want the instant gratification that the rest of the world is experiencing. On the other hand, the US market is so advertising driven and if BlackBerry needs to build up their marketing machine in the US to ensure that the Z10 and the Q10 are successful, then I guess that’s just a bullet that we in the States will need to bite
