Sobering news from John Chen today so brace yourselves. BlackBerry CEO John Chen told the news agency Reuters that he would consider selling off the handset division if it remains unprofitable. Mr. Chen also says that BlackBerry is looking to broaden it's corporate business with partnerships, investments and acquisitions.
This statement by John Chen makes my heart skip a beat, and it may do the same for you. Chen states, "If I cannot make money on handsets, I will not be in the handset business." Wow. Chen also stated in the Reuters interview that the time frame was short for a decision to be made but he would not elaborate any further.
BlackBerry is also looking to partner with other companies in healthcare, financial and legal services which all rely on high security communications. Mr. Chen didn't rule out strengthening BlackBerry's network security via small acquisitions.
