• John Chen: The Passport Will Cost $599 And Be Available On Wednesday

John Chen, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, has announced that the BlackBerry Passport will cost $599 and be available Wednesday, the day of launch in the US off contract. The cost of the Passport will vary in different countries however, because of "taxes and tarriffs", Chen said. He did not mention where the Passport would be available or mention carriers, however.

Chen said that the Passport "should cost around $700, but I figure that to try to get the market interested, we're going to start a little lower than that." This undercuts the cost of many new phones, especially the iPhone6 that goes around $649, the iPhone6 Plus for $749 and the Samsung Galaxy S5 for $650.

BlackBerry is going to simultaneously launch the Passport in Toronto, London and Dubai and the Passport will be available "immediately" in some stores and "in one to two weeks a lot of places will have it including markets in Asia, Mr. Chen said."

Chen touted the battery life in the Passport which he claims will last 36 hours and sports a large antenna to help reception. Mr. Chen also said that BlackBerry Blend will be released in November and in December, BlackBerry will likely release the BlackBerry Classic.
