The number of times we've written about Instagram almost rivals the amount of any other app, BBM included. It's no surprise since Instagram is one of the most popular apps out there for iOS and Android. We've been able to sideload it since early March, and frankly that's been enough for some people.
A newer version leaked in May on the first day of BlackBerry Live when an official app wasn't announced.
This week, Instagram's CEO, Kevin Systrom, chimed in about a BlackBerry and Windows Phone during an interview with FastCompany.
"We're not yet on BlackBerry or Windows Phone, so I think those will come before Google Glass," stated Systrom.
Awesome, right? Not quite.
"I'm not saying those will come anytime soon," he quickly added. "I’m just saying that in order of priority, the way we evaluate where to expand to is really simply where our users are, and where the growth is. It took us a very long time to get to Android."
Indeed it took them about a year a half to get on Android, after launching exclusively on iOS, so the wait for BlackBerry 10 could be similar. Since launching on Android, though, Instagram has been acquired by Facebook, growing a lot, and introducing video to their social network.
The most annoying part about all this is that, as mentioned above, an Android app port could work on BlackBerry 10 officially. Yes, there are some annoyances that are more than likely keeping Facebook from giving the green light, but it gets the job done at least!
We shall keep waiting, and we'll keep looking for better BAR files to sideload. Stay tuned!
