The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) has announced
that they will be replacing their BlackBerry phones with of all things, the iPhone. Yes, it seems that a government agency that is tasked with US security, isn't all that concerned with actual security with their cell phones.
So, what exactly is the reason that ICE has decided to stop using BlackBerry as their feature phone? In my opinion, it is that there has been little change in what the current BlackBerry OS has to offer. The newest OS is a year old and the technology hasn't caught up with what iOS and Android is currently offering. This is reflective in the current woes of RIM in the United States and until BlackBerry 10 is released, we probably will be seeing more stories like this.
ICE uses around 17,000 phones and the loss is a big blow to RIM. However what we've seen with the upcoming BlackBerry 10 and it's fantastic business and personal balance feature will surely win back business users, both public and private. And let's hope the government decides to get back into using REAL security measures again.
