Driving into work early this morning, I was able to catch the replay of the Howard Stern Show on Sirius/XM radio. While not a complete fanatic of his show, I do at times find him entertaining. This morning I really was not amused as Howard, Robin and their supporting cast did their recap of the Super Bowl commercials. Howard had many unflattering things to say about the new BlackBerry commercial, calling it the “worst commercial of the night” and a “complete waste of money.” I wasn’t wowed with the commercial myself but it was far from the worst one aired. And even I understand that it’s the first step in a brand new marketing campaign.
Calling BlackBerry a “company in denial”, Stern also played audio clips of a BBC interview with BlackBerry Europe’s Stephen Bates where Bates declines to answer the repeated question of, “What have you learned from the iPhone?” Stern went on to pummel BlackBerry by saying, “The ad agency and the executive that approved it should be fired on the spot.” Why would Stern complain about someone not mentioning their competition when all Stern did was try and decimate his competition across the country?
Stern, who once was a BlackBerry user, is now a dedicated iSheep fanatic who admittedly uses his iPad mostly for watching babysitter porn. In as much as he tries to be a knowledgeable man, Stern is dead wrong about the commercial and BlackBerry as a company.
Has he handled the Z10? Used the time shift feature? Story maker? BBM video chat? Probably not. Does he know the turnaround that Thorsten Heins has overseen? I seriously doubt he knows anything about BlackBerry’s recent fortunes. Well, now is your time to let him know what you think of his opinion of BlackBerry and their commercial. You can let him know at his twitter account: @HowardStern or his show email address here. Also, let us know what you think about what Howard said in the comments below.
Maybe a certain mobile computing company can send Howard a Z10 so he can see how wrong he really is about BlackBerry.
