BlackBerryOS.com - Google Takes Down Mobile Maps OTA Link For BlackBerry
  • Google Takes Down Mobile Maps OTA Link For BlackBerry [Update: Link Has Been Moved]

[Update 10:26am:] So apparently, Google hasn't completely taken down Maps for BlackBerry yet, they've just moved it to an obscure link instead. If you still want to download Google Maps for BlackBerry, simply point your browser to google.com/mobile/other and select Google Maps.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Google dropped support for BlackBerry a while back, in terms of no new updates for any of their apps. A few of the OTA download links were still available though and BlackBerry users everywhere were still using them to get old versions of apps, like Google Maps at google.com/gmm or google.com/mobile/blackberry.

Unfortunately, it seems that Google got tired of it and no longer wanted to even host these links as they have all been taken down or made to redirect back to google.com/mobile.

This change mainly affects BB7 and lower users that liked Google Maps and what it offered. I personally, hated it and use BlackBerry Maps a lot more frequently. Once BB10 launches, don't be surprised if we don't see Google Maps on board. I think they're releasing right now BlackBerry will definitely be competition to them come 2013 and they're not about to help RIM bring more users back.

That was Chen's focus. Business sector. As long as they can start turning a significant profit, BlackBerry can comeback as a big marketshare player again.
