• Foxconn-Built BlackBerry Rumored To Debut At Mobile World Congress

We may get a glimpse of the codenamed BlackBerry Jakarta earlier than we originally thought! Terry Gou, chairman of Taiwan's Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. (also known as Foxconn) announced earlier today during a Hon Hai Charity festival in Taipei that the first BlackBerry devices assembled by Foxconn should make their appearance at Mobile World Congress (MWC), which is set to be held in Barcelona, Spain from February 24-27th.

We are working with them to design a new device, and we will showcase multiple devices at the trade show in Barcelona in February.
Device specifics were ommited from Gou's comment, but as we already know this will be a low-cost BlackBerry specifically targeted for emerging markets, with a release date of March or April. Given that we are only two to three months away from that release date , showing off the newest BlackBerry during MWC makes sense, but we are still puzzled by Gou mentioning multiple devices. Maybe he was alluding to multiple devices built by Foxconn, not necessarily Foxconn built BlackBerry devices. Regardless, all this muddy water surrounding the BlackBerry Jakarta will hopefully be clear like spring water when Mobile World Congress rolls around in late February.
