For BlackBerry users who've been patiently waiting for a much needed update to the Facebook, it's finally arrived in BlackBerry World, though it's safe to say most BlackBerry users aren't going to like what they find.
The newest version of the app is not an app anymore. Version 10.8.31.4 of the Facebook App for BlackBerry smartphones running BlackBerry 10 and OS 7.1 is now nothing more than a web browser link to the Facebook mobile website.
According to the knowledge base article
on the "upgrade", unlike Android and iPhone, BlackBerry does not have access to the private API provided by Facebook to continue development of the app.
BlackBerry users will lose hub integration and with it the ability to synchronize contacts, receive friend requests and other Facebook related notifications directly to the BlackBerry Hub. The ability to share videos and pictures from your BlackBerry device directly to your Facebook page is gone as well.
And for anyone thinking "Well I won't upgrade, I'll just hang on to the version I'm using right now." sorry, as of March 31, 2016 all previous versions of the app will cease to function, forcing users to perform the upgrade or find third party Facebook apps to fill the void.
For those who do go through with the upgrade, make sure after you've logged in go to the Facebook help center and let them know what you think of their treatment of BlackBerry.
