The one undeniable bright spot that BlackBerry has had recently has been BBM. After a terrible initial launch, the company gathered itself, and relaunched BBM for iPhone, and Android in an incredibly successful manner last month. When the dust settled, BlackBerry let us know that over 20 million new users had been added in the first week of multi-platform BBM goodness. The next barrier for BBM would obviously be engagement; a way to prove it wasn't just downloads, but people actually used the app. It seems that facet is also doing better than expected.
According to a recent report by Mobidia relayed exclusively to, and I can't believe I'm saying this, BGR, BBM engagement has surpassed some of its key rivals in the messaging department in that first week of launch. The report sites engagement times of of 40 min, and 44 min averaged per user which put it ahead of apps like Tango, and even Viber. While this may be impressive, engagement times from Kik, for example at over 100 min/day, show BBM still has room to grow.
If you want to check out a more detailed look at the report, head on over to, and I can't believe I'm saying this again, BGR.
