• CEO Thorsten Heins Says BlackBerry Won't Sell $50 Devices

In a recent interview with Bloomberg, BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins said, "Understand where you are playing and resist being talked into segments that you know will not serve your purpose and will not result in shareholder value," "You will not see us getting into the 50-60 buck phone segment. This is not BlackBerry."

Some may see this come as a shock because BlackBerry currently has many OS 7 devices at and below the $50 price range. TechnoBuffalo speculates that, "perhaps Heins specifically means that he won’t be selling unlocked, contract-free devices at that price point."

Could be. But I think it's more of a statement of confidence from Heins. That BlackBerry doesn't plan on selling cheap phones. All that jazz is in the past. And going forward, BlackBerry doesn't plan on falling behind to a place where they are forced to sell cheap.

What's your take? Should BlackBerry offer a cheaper lineup of stripped down BlackBerry 10 devices?
