A couple of weeks ago a rumor popped up that suggested that RIM was working on a BlackBerry Media Box/TV. Well the rumors haven't died and instead have intensified. Apparently this Media Box will receive the name BlackBerry Cyclone.
According to these rumors, the BlackBerry Cyclone will be Netflix ready, have WiFi, an HDMI out port, and even possibly run a QNX OS. Take all of this with a huge grain of salt as we've yet to see a picture, screen shot or any concrete evidence indicating that this is actually happening.
With the recent bashing of RIM in the public media, I remain slightly concerned with the fact that they're focusing resources on making TV/Media Boxes instead of centering all efforts on making better phones. Could this new innovation potentially help bring RIM back to the top and by default help make our BlackBerry devices more fun and attractive to the average consumer? Of course but if it were to fail it could pretty much sink RIM even deeper than they already are in the tech-race. I'm not sold that the risk is worth the potential reward.
That being said, the BlackBerry-loving side of me hopes I am 100% wrong in this and that RIM will make strides to attract more and more people to the BlackBerry platform whichever way they see fit.
BlackBerry Cyclone? Like it, love it, hate it? Sound off in the forums!
