In mobile commerce, ad requests are key. John Chen said during the recent quarterly earnings statement that he wasn't comfortable where their income from mobile commerce was. Even with this statement, Chen should be delighted with the news that BBM ad requests are hitting at a billion requests a day.
"Since we launched our Native Ad units last July, we have seen solid interest in Sponsored Posts and Invites, as well as our Sponsored Sticker packs. This is from e-commerce brands, financial services firms, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies, or the travel and automotive industry – basically any brand looking to interact and engage with consumers via mobile", states Matthew Tablot, SVP Emerging Solutions at BlackBerry
Now, it is sometimes annoying when you get those "invites" that you think are from a new contact but are really an ad to download a game. I admit, i hate those as well, but understand that this is a huge milestone in BBM. This has lead and will lead to more sponsored ads for BBM and potentially valuable growth in income for BlackBerry with formats like video ads from media buyers. Remember, this is all from BBM going cross platform.
Imagine if they had gone cross platform earlier with BBM.
