A new version of the Desktop Manager software v7 has officially been released. This one is bundle .60, one tick over the .59 that was available in the Beta Zone recently. No change log added with the update but we can assume this version is a lot better than the one that was previously released and then pulled.

All BlackBerry 7 Devices Gain U.S. Department Of Defense Approval

The U.S. Dept of Defense has officially approved all BlackBerry 7 devices. This comes to no surprise as we recently reported that a half a million federal workers, including the President, are still glued to their BlackBerry devices. Also, the United Kingdom, and the land down under, Australia, approved BlackBerry 7 devices in the last couple weeks as well. Perhaps all this hype lately is tied to the fact that BlackBerry 10 is coming soon, and those who thought they may want to change their government device to the iPhone or Android are finally coming to whits end again. Are you a government worker with a BlackBerry?

Beta Zone Releases Desktop Software v7.1 Beta - Now Support For Dev Alpha & 4G PlayBook

RIM has just released DM v7.1 Beta in the Beta Zone. Biggest additions with this new version is the support for 4G PlayBooks and BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha devices. Since the release of the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha device, there have been some issues arising for developers. Some have experienced Android Player issues, while others have bricked their devices by using the wiping option. This update to Desktop Software v7.1 Beta is suppose to alleviate these issues.

Here is the changelog for v7.1 Beta:
    - Media sync enhancements including individual selection, sync by album, and customizable columns in collections mode
    - Support for 4G PlayBooks
    - Support for new BlackBerry 7 OS devices
    - Major bug fixes and PIM sync improvements as highlighted in the Release Notes (in downloads section)

    For Developers:
    - Support for BB10 Alpha Developer devices

Developers will be able to update their Dev Alpha devices as soon as RIM releases a update into the community. My guess is that it's not that far off. We'll keep you posted when they do.

During the BlackBerry 10 Jam conference, RIM had released many samples of code for developers to help them get started on their BlackBerry 10 OS apps. However, this list of samples was incomplete and was promised to become a bigger archive for devs to use. Today, the BB DevBlog has posted a nice list of the current samples being offered for BlacKBerry 10 development with the promise of more on the way coming soon. It's nice to see BlackBerry focusing on getting the developers out there the tools they need for the upcoming OS 10. Are you a developer? How do you think BlackBerry has handled so far?

While this type of OS application isn't too practical, the PlayBook is shown in this video running the Windows Phone 7 operating system. We have already seen the PlayBook running Android operating systems you can see in a demo video.

Update: We have found out that this is just a online demo of the Windows Phone 7 OS that the user is scrolling through on the PlayBook browser. Sorry to disappoint fans of the WP7.

Now that BlackBerry 10 Jam has come and gone, there have been many developers that weren't able to make the event who would like to see a replay of the Jam Keynote. I was able to attend the Keynote myself, but due to strict policy, we were not allowed to record video during this event. However, the official BlackBerry YouTube account has uploaded most of the Keynote in a series of videos that outline the various demos that took place. Below you will find links to each video demo. RIM has made an announcement today that they have signed a deal with a well-known mapping and navigation company, TomTom, to improve the quality of the BlackBerry Traffic application. RIM has partnered themselves with one of the leading companies in providing real-time traffic information. In my opinion, this partnership will definitely bring the development of BlackBerry 10 to the next level. Although RIM said nothing about that, I am still excited about what will happen in the following days. Finally, the BlackBerry OS 7.1 is officially released in the Philippines via Globe Telecom, Inc. Although OS 7.1 has been released to some other countries already and can be used by everyone, we cannot blame the others who haven’t got the guts to use it on their devices for some reasons. This is definitely great news to every Filipino BlackBerry fan who has been waiting for this official release for quite some time now.

Filipinos will be able to experience this awesome operating system and utilize cool added features like BlackBerry Tag that can change the way BlackBerry users share information and content. By simply tapping their NFC-enabled BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone against another NFC-enabled BlackBerry smartphone, users can make sharing easier than ever! They can instantly invite a friend to BBM (BlackBerry Messenger), exchange contact information, documents, URLs, photos, apps and other multimedia content, and they can also pair their BlackBerry smartphone with an NFC-enabled Bluetooth device. With BlackBerry 7.1 OS, customers can be productive virtually anywhere. They can now turn their BlackBerry smartphone into a Mobile Hotspot that can be shared by up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices, including laptops and tablets.

Welcome to the club. No help here. Does your BB Software Manager see your pin? If it does, you good. If not, you got a brick.
