A new app is out that allows you to copy your iTunes collection to your BlackBerry PlayBook. This is a nice easy way to get all of your songs from iTunes to your PlayBook. Currently it does not support copying music from your PlayBook to your PC. The cost is a deal at $0.99.

    Software description from the vendor:

If you're like me, keeping your mobile devices up-to-date with your latest music purchases is a hassle. I've always wished it was a simple as pressing a button -- and now it is. iTunes Sync allows you to copy your iTunes collection from your Windows PC to your BlackBerry® PlayBook™ with the press of a button, no wires, no hassle.

Download a new song on your PC? No problem, just open iTunes Sync on your BlackBerry® PlayBook™ and press 'Sync', and that track will be copied onto your BlackBerry® PlayBook™ wirelessly in seconds.Download all of your music, or use features that allow you greater control over what music gets copied to your BlackBerry® PlayBook™.

    NOTE
: iTunes Sync does not yet copy music from your BlackBerry® PlayBook™ to your PC.

Since the BBX OS was first announced at Devcon Americas back in Oct there has been a lot of hype as to what the new design of the BBX Superphone will look like. So far there has been two possible codenamed devices, the London and Colt, but nothing as far as a visual until last week when a picture of the BlackBerry London was leaked online. Keep in mind that this photo has not been confirmed by RIM, yet there have been a few sites claiming that their own "unconfirmed" sources have "confirmed" the photo as legit... figure that one out. But does the recently leaked picture of the London really depict what we have heard about the upcoming BBX device so far, and how it will look? I happen to believe the BBX-like phone design in the above pic will be closer to the final product, and here is why...

BlackBerry App World 3.1 With WiFi Support Coming Soon

Over the past few months RIM has been working hard to improve its BlackBerry App World. We have seen much improvements with the recent releases such as a revamped user interface. Now RIM is working on version 3.1 which will allow for one very important feature, WiFi support. That means if you have a wifi connection you can still download all your favorite apps, and at faster speeds. In addition another new feature called "gifting" will also be available. This new feature allows you to download a app that someone else paid for.

These two features will be a nice addition to the current App World. I am really looking forward to the WiFi support. What do you think about these two new features?

Magmic Looking To Bring Themes Sooner To BlackBerry 7 Devices

    by

    Categories:

    2. BlackBerry Software

Application and theme company, Magmic, have reported that they have been able to successfully load themes onto BlackBerry 7 devices. They said that they were still limited to what they could do, but that they may have some full themes after a bit more tweaking around. If you remember, RIM came out and publicly and said that the Theme Studio software for BlackBerry 7 devices would not become available until about mid-year 2012. So it's no surprise to see some developers trying to push to get themes on the new OS to subdue the hungry theme attics.

However, if you remember back in August of 2009, Bplay was able to modify Plazmic Theme Builder to allow for themes to work on the Tour 9630 device. RIM came out with a statement that condemned the actions, calling it tampering with the software and a violation of the license agreement. Although, since RIM has officially taken over the Theme Studio software from Plazmic perhaps the rules have changed.

    • Should RIM put a stop to this recent attempt by Magmic to make themes before the official software is released?

The security gurus over at RIM continue to do what they do best, and make sure that every device released by the company is as secure as it can be. Today RIM has announced that its newly released OS 7 devices have reached EAL4+ certification. In short the EAL stands for Evaluation Assurance Level, and is used to grade IT products or systems to make sure that they meet industry security standards.

Here is the official statement from RIM:

Waterloo, ON - Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ:RIMM)(TSX:RIM) today announced that BlackBerry® smartphones running on the BlackBerry® 7 Operating System (OS) have been independently evaluated by a third-party Common Criteria evaluation facility and meet the security criteria for evaluation assurance level (EAL) 4+.

The Common Criteria is an international standard for validating that products meet specific security requirements. Widely respected for its extensive and comprehensive evaluation by an independent third party, EAL4+ accreditation examines a product’s design, software development methodology, and security mechanisms. EAL4+ is the highest level of accreditation under the Common Criteria Recognition Arrangement (CCRA) by 26 countries.

“Security is one of the most important considerations for enterprise customers and we are proud that BlackBerry 7 OS has earned this rigorous certification,” said Scott Totzke, Senior Vice President, BlackBerry Security at RIM. “RIM is renowned as a market leader in the delivery of secure mobile solutions, and this achievement helps to provide our customers globally with continued confidence in deploying BlackBerry solutions throughout their organizations.”

As a market leader in the area of information assurance and compliance, RIM is committed to independent, third party security testing and certifications of BlackBerry products. RIM is active in the Cryptographic Module Validation Program in North America, United Kingdom CESG Assisted Product Service (CAPS) and International Common Criteria evaluation scheme. BlackBerry® Enterprise Server has been previously awarded EAL4+ certification and the BlackBerry Enterprise Solution has also been previously approved for storing and transmitting sensitive data by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) as well as government organizations in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Austria, Australia and New Zealand.
