The PlayBook has another retail outlet. Gerald Evans, a Market Director at Sprint has leaked in his personal blog that the WiFi version of the PlayBook will be available at Sprint, starting June 5th.

The much anticipated BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet with Wi-Fi® connectivity and 16 GB of storage will go on sale in all Sprint direct ship sales channels, including Sprint Stores, Business Sales, Cell Phones, Mobile Phones & Wireless Calling Plans from Sprint and Telesales (1-800-SPRINT1) on Sunday, June 5, for $499.99 (plus tax).
It must be noted that this is not an official announcement from Sprint or RIM. Are you a Sprint subscriber just got happier?

BlackBerry PlayBook 2 Details and Specs Leaked?

    Joe Jerde

    2. BlackBerry PlayBook

The guys over at N4BB claim to have received some information form sources on a PlayBook 2 device. Their sources say the PlayBook 2 will come in a 10 inch screen, but I imagine a 7 inch will continue to be an option as well. Their sources also point out a few more details for a PlayBook 2:

    • Black & white colored models
    • SIM card slot
    • 4G/WiFi only, no 3G version
    • Thinner frame around screen
    • Able to connect to BES without BlackBerry Bridge

If indeed the tablet will get all of the above, I do see it being the PlayBook 2. But just a larger 10 inch screen would not warrant a new name. It seems that we all already knew that a second generation PlayBook would be getting these features anyway. The tablet market competition demands it. Remember, this is only rumors at this point as there is no hard evidence to support the above sources. And like I said, it's obvious the next tablet would head in this direction. Did you get the 7 inch PlayBook? Would a larger 10 inch screen fit you better?

Keep in mind that this rumor is unconfirmed and it's not rare to see rumors like this before the release of a BlackBerry device. The upcoming device is set to hit the market this late summer/early fall and will model after the Storm, minus the surepress and with a lot more power. Rumor: Is this what App World v3 will look like?

So, we've seen that App World for BlackBerry devices will be updated to version 3 in July or August, but have we seen what it will look like? The answer is, now, yes. The guys over at BBnews have just showed us a screenshot of what looks to be App World v3, and I gotta say, it looks much better than the existing App World User Interface.

If you do not know what App World is, it is an application portal where almost every BlackBerry application can be accessed and downloaded.

BBnews claims that App World v3 will have the following features:

    • The latest online store with applications that integrates with BlackBerry Messenger to a large extent, allowing instant and much more powerful "sharing" of valuable items.
    • You can pay for paid applications using your Carrier's phone bill, which is for consumers who do not have an existing PayPal, or whom do not want to register for one.
    • A 'special' section for corporate consumers

All in all, this looks like a great update for App World. I can't wait to see it on my BlackBerry!

Coming to Vodafone?... Yes! "Coming soon" to Vodafone?... Perhaps not. We reported earlier that techsite, BGR, acquired information from sources today which say that the Bold 9900/9930 will not be launching until mid-August at the earliest. Three months from now is hardly "Coming Soon." If the information received is correct, then be prepared to have a little patience to get your hands on the device.

It could be that Vodafone just wants to get a hand in first with the touchscreen Bold device from RIM with a early announcement. Either way, you can still be the first to know when it becomes available by registering for updates at the Vodafone website.

RIM to launch 10-inch BlackBerry PlayBook this fall - OS 7 devices delayed?

The guys over at BGR claim to have been told by 'multiple sources' that RIM is planning on releasing the next PlayBook design around this year's holiday season. Rumor has it the next PlayBook design will be a 10 inch model, adding to the already 7 inch model.

Also, via unconfirmed information - the just announced BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 will not be launching until mid-August at the earliest. The previous timeframe for the launch was during June/July. The launch has been delayed for reasons unknown. Additionally, the rest of RIM’s 2011 lineup won’t be announced until BlackBerry’s DevCon conference on October 18th. Apparently the hierarchy at RIM have been vocally unhappy about the “disproportionate” reallocation of resources to the PlayBook away from the OS 7 lineup.

How about it? Would you buy a 10 inch PlayBook?

Rumor: BlackBerry 6.1 will be known as BlackBerry 7

    Joe Jerde

    2. BlackBerry Rumors

Rumor is spreading fast from information that CrackBerry has received from "numerous sources" that RIM will be revealing, not OS 6.1, but rather OS 7 at the upcoming BlackBerry World conference. It seems that RIM has decided to re-brand the OS 6.1 update completely as BlackBerry 7 without adding any type of OS QNX to the design base. This sudden move may be a way to further separate the OS from the BlackBerry 6 name, and give the upcoming devices their own OS 7 flavor. However, rumor also has it that current phones running BB6 may not get any BB7 action right off the bat - which could make sense, given that new features like NFC are only present in upcoming devices. Keep in mind that all of this is as of now unconfirmed, but we hope to see that any changes won't affect the user in a difficult way. Will this affect you in how you see the upcoming OS?

One of the new devices for RIM's device timeline for 2011 is an update for the Storm - which will probably be called the BlackBerry Touch (a.k.a Moncao/Monza). According to T-Mo news, T-Mobile will have this device in their lineup by late June, more specifically the 29th of June. This device will feature a HUGE improvement in the Storm's hardware, with the full list of specs for you to view here. Thoughts? Will you be buying one?
