BlackBerry Bold 9790 makes camera appearance with updated buttons

When the original lineup of BlackBerry 7 devices was announced, I was slightly disappointed to not see a Bold 97xx form-factor announced, as it was pretty much the only form-factor I had ever owned.

RIM seems to have decided to tweak a 97xx/99xx hybrid device, which will be releasing soon as the Bold 9790. The original design we seen this summer was basically a 9780 with touchscreen & updated specs, but recent leaked images show a new charging port location & buttons similar to Torch 9850/9860.

These updated buttons honestly make the device look horrendous. Why change something that was great in the first place?

Fresh off DevCon 2011 RIM has been pushing its self for mobile innovation, and has embraced a number of new technologies. This is great news as we all are looking forward to new things. There have been a couple of new videos that have surfaced that show how RIM perceives the future of mobile computing. The first video basically shows what RIM thinks could be the future of mobile device management. I like the layout of the futuristic phone, but every time I see a really thin glass like phone I think about how many times I would break that thing. The video integration option looks pretty sweet.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but those words are not always true. At least that is what the consensus is ever since a white Bold 9900 has been spotted in the wild. RIM has failed to verify the pictured device will be available, so let's not get our hopes up just yet. It sure does look sexy though! Would you sell your black 9900 for a white one?

QNX Drops BBX Name At Japan Auto Summit

Things are starting to get exciting once again in the world of BlackBerry. We are starting to hear more and more about this new BBX platform. We got word a couple days ago that new BlackBerry X (BBX) platform, would be announced at the upcoming DevCon in San Francisco. The BBX platform is rumored to be a QNX based OS for the PlayBook and the upcoming QNX based BlackBerry SuperPhones.

Although we have some information regarding the devices BBX will showcase on, there is still much to be determined in regards to its functionality. A photo taken from a recent QNX blog post shows the name BBX in one of the presentation slides talking about QNX Car 2. This is exciting as it helps confirm progress in RIM's next major move.

With QNX based Blackberries coming soon it only makes sense for RIM to announce something like this at the next DevCon. I am excited about this, a fresh name, a new OS, and new devices on the horizon. I like RIM's decision to step out of their traditional OS and device models, and move towards something fresh.

What do you think? Are you excited about BBX?

Earlier in the year there were rumors circulating that RIM would bring its popular BBM messaging program to the Android Operating System. Although RIM never confirmed this, it was only a matter of time before the chatter around the water cooler eventually would make its way to some sort digital makeover. We saw just that earlier this week when "leaked" photos surfaced showing BBM running on the Android OS. However, it wasn't long before the photos were declared fake.

RIM looking at possibility of customizing lock screen on BlackBerry

Lock screens on devices have become an important part for many smartphone manufacturers. No longer is it just a place to enter your passcode, but rather a place to see pertinent information without unlocking your device.

Research In Motion is currently looking at a few different concepts for its lock screens. It's uncertain if these concepts are for OS 6/7 devices or QNX, but I am interested to see a native lock screen similar to apps like bLOC.

    I
f this leaked flyer is right, it looks like Sprint users can expect to see the Curve 9350 available October 2nd. We previously reported that Sprint was to delay the Curve 9350 due to "Unexpected circumstances". So it seems as though things are going according to plan in regards to the October release.

Will you be purchasing the 9350? Let us know your thoughts in the forums.

It seems as though the "mystery" phone we have been following over the past few weeks is turning out to be less of a mystery than initially thought. As its turning out it appears as though the mystery device, code named "Knight, is nothing more than a revamped Bold 9900.

Take a look at some of these side by side comparisons.

The 9980 R47 was initially rumored to be a QNX device, however further details on the device are suggesting that it is a Bold revamped exclusively for Porche owners.

What do you think of this new BlackBerry device? Would you Purchase one? Let us know in the forums.

RIM keeps dropping VPs like hotcakes.

Today, John Vandermay (VP of BES Software) announced he was leaving. He will be joining Gemcom Software International Inc., a Vancouver-based mining software company, as vice president of product development.

Although Mr Vandermay had only held his position for 18 months, he is now the fifth senior executive to leave RIM in the last six months.

Is this the foreshadowing of a disaster for RIM?
