One of the most interesting things about this BlackBerry 10 Jam World Tour that's going on right now is learning who will show up and from what companies. Well today, Mikel Calderon who is attending BlackBerry 10 Jam in Santa Clara, California, sent out the above tweet that made a lot of people crack a little smile. Apparently, Skype does like BlackBerry a little.

Whether we want to actually use Skype to video chat or simply realize that an app of that importance is essential to a successful ecosytem, we all want Skype on BlackBerry 10. Unfortunately thus far, no Skype app has been developed for the PlayBook and much like with Netflix, nothing has been confirmed for BlackBerry 10 yet either. Obviously, we're all pretty sad about it.

Now, does the fact that they showed up to BlackBerry 10 Jam today mean that we'll have a Skype app for BlackBerry 10 for sure? No, it doesn't. But it doesn't hurt when you think about it. One of the things I've always complained about is how certain companies aren't even giving RIM a chance to show them what BlackBerry 10 can bring and if they did, they would be impressed.

Well, this is exactly what Skype seems to be doing at least. They were willing to send a developer/representative out there today and actually check out what RIM has to say about BB10.

Hopefully, this can be the first step in a great partnership between RIM and Skype/Microsoft for the benefit of all future BlackBerry 10 users.

Back in October of last year, a couple concept videos from RIM leaked into the community. These videos showed various concepts that could possibly become reality on BlackBerry devices in the future. Anywhere from seamless integration from BES admin to the end user, to controlling your home security system and more from your Smartphone.

This time around, another video has surfaced via the BlackBerryDE YouTube account. The video is dated 2011, so it may just be one of many more of these first concept videos that have yet to release. In the video, it shows off the future of the customer experience as a young woman uses mobile technology to find her wedding outfit, and buy and communicate with online and offline retailers. The video shows that customers and businesses can use mobile technology to work together more easily and quickly to respond to the customers needs.

What do you think about these concepts? Let us know in the comments!

A dull grey building, with no signs in Canada that is owned by RIM, has the locals wondering what exactly is going on inside this newly built structure. The building is located at a remote location far from RIM's Waterloo campus, and no one really knows what's going on there. A new HQ or a company "think tank" have been among some of the guesses.

RIM's Corporate Communications Manager, Rebecca Freiburger, stated that “a number of people from varying business units are housed there," and that "it was decided a sign was unnecessary, as there isn’t a need for visitors to know its location." Although RIM has remained coy with inquiries regarding the building, there are other clues that may give us a little more information. According to research done by TheRecord, a report from Colliers International listed the building as RIM's headquarters.

Over the years RIM has always remained quiet about their real estate investments, and have spent quite a bit of money on it. Whatever this building is being used for, it's clear that RIM has something to do with it. Is it a secret testing lab for BB 10? A secret research center for future devices? We will probably never know, but it's always fun speculating.

Even though we've seen these images before, it's very cool to see RIM going out of their way to talk more about
the BlackBerry 10 the way we saw at BlackBerry World. Well today in London, Vivek Bhardwaj, head of RIM software in EMEA, has given a press briefing in which BlackBerry 10 demos

A couple of weeks ago during BlackBerry World 2012 attendees were given a look at some of the new BlackBerry 10 features. Among those new features that wowed the crowd was the new gesture-based, predictive text touchscreen keyboard.

It is not very often that we reference anything Apple related, but BBOS member DownForce let us know in the forums that, BlackBerry users aren't the only ones excited for this new innovative new feature from RIM. iPhone users could see a clone of RIM's new gesture based predictive type keyboard as early as next week. The jailbreak tweak application Octopus will allow iPhone users to use the keyboard that most Blackberry users are only dreaming about now.

The Octopus keyboard has features that include, automatically learning new words as you type, custom completion engine, and multi-language support. Sound familiar? If not you will want to take another look at the BlackBerry 10 Sneak Peek Video we posted not too long ago.

This will be interesting to see how RIM responds to this as it is a jailbreak tweak and not mandated by Apple in any way. So the developer behind Octopus keyboard may find themselves in hot water within the next few weeks.

What do you think about this? Sound off in the forum.

The homescreen experience is possibly the most underrated part of any OS. It's the most viewed and frequented area that any smartphone user has. It seems BlackBerry 10 will completely look different in this aspect from what we've grown accustomed to with the current line up of devices. And we're kind of excited about it, to be honest.

The BlackBerry 10 homescreen will feature the last four running/used apps for easy access to whatever you utilize the most at that time. This is huge for people that are constantly needing to access certain key areas of their phones at only specific intervals. Absolutely brilliant in my opinion.

The unified Messages inbox also looks awesome. It brings together the familiarity of the BlackBerry Messages app will still giving it that new lift that it has so desperately needed.

The Media Player on BlackBerry 10 will also be improved. A smart feature has been added which will make that experience much more enjoyable.

We can also see that the video chat integration will be much deeper as well. It'll be part of the "Call Logs" (rightfully so) and be easily accessible as well.

Last but not least is the Clock UI on BB10. The redesigned clock looks amazing and defiinitely shows such attention to detail that we simply couldn't be more impressed.

So what do you think? Do you like the direction RIM is taking their BlackBerry 10 OS?

One of the things many of us have complained about the PlayBook is the lack of media editing capabilities, with video, pictures; etc. Research In Motion recently purchased a company called J-cut and have apparently been putting them to work.

Pictured above is the video editing software that will be coming to BlackBerry 10 smartphones and the PlayBook as well. Not much can be gathered from one specific slide but it's great knowing that all of these acquisitions that RIM has made are being put to great use.

When it rains, it pours and we're not done sharing information with you guys. Another leaked slide that's made its way onto the CB Forums, has to do with screen sharing capabilities on BlackBerry 10.

Think about how Skype or G+ video chat allow you to show the other person what you see on the screen. That's the idea behind this concept slide and frankly we're ecstatic about it.

I've been hearing about this lock-screen on BlackBerry 10 for about as long as I can remember and finally some pictures have leaked. These BlackBerry 10 slides show us what it will be like to use future BlackBerry devices when it comes to locking/unlocking and reading notifications when a device is idle.

Apparently, to unlock the device, one will simply have to swipe up from the bottom bezel (no more unlocking from bezel to bezel it seems), or actually press the unlock/lock button.

My favorite leaked slide has to be what's being called "Cinnamon Toasts." When a BB10 device receives a new message and is picked up the screen will automatically turn on and display a small part of the new notification. Upon tilting it more, it will show a little bit more of the message, and so on and so forth.

The security features will take precedent though if a password is enabled and the toasts features will not work if that's the case unless the phone is unlocked.

I am absolutely loving what I am seeing from BlackBerry 10 so far. What do you think?

CrackBerry has gotten their hands on a couple of concept user interface pictures for the future builds of Twitter and Facebook for BlackBerry. As you can tell in the picture above, these are being displayed on a Dev Alpha device, so it's safe to assume these concepts are for the BB10 platform.

We've been hearing though, that these interfaces might be making their debut long before BlackBerry 10 hits. With respects to Twitter for BlackBerry specifically, many of you know how much a new, revamped, and more connected UI is needed and odds are we'll be getting it soon.

The BlackBerry Beta Zone has actively been working on getting new updates for our most popular apps and these two new interfaces are definitely in the plans. Check below for more pics!

We knew little by little the Dev Alpha device would give us some hidden secrets about the future of BlackBerry, including the BlackBerry 10 OS. What we didn't know was that this device would also give us some info as to the future hardware for BlackBerry devices as well.

Well today, J. Duke from OSBB, has dug up some great info from the Dev Alpha device's viewable file system. Here are some future BlackBerry device code names that he found.

    • # R044 – Nevada 0x8400270A,1
    • # R051 – Winchester2 LTE 0x0c001a06,1
    • # R052 – Winchester2 HSPA+ 0x0d001a06,1
    • # R053 – Winchester2 LTE HSPA+ 0x0e001a06,1
    • # R061 – Colt 0×04002307,1
    • # R072 – London 0×04002607,1
    • # R073 – Blackforest 0×04002706,1
    • # R084 – Nashville 0x8500270A,1
    • # R085 – Naples 0x8600270A,1

Some of these names are a little familiar to us (Colt, London; etc) but others are not. It's possible that the Winchester2 code name could represent the 3G/4G PlayBook variants. Logically this would make sense.

The last two, Nashville and Naples, are definitely intriguing to say the least as well. Could these be the mythical slider and full QWERTY BB10 devices? I get a feeling they very well could be.

What kind of devices are you hoping to see when BlackBerry 10 finally comes out?

It has been a strange couple of days for RIM, as they have been stuck in the middle of controversy once again. This time being blamed for a flash mob outside an Apple store in Sydney Australia. It was rather interesting how this one played out. Initially it was Samsung who was said to be behind the strange "Wake Up" campaign. However, Samsung publicly denied it stating that " Samsung Electronics Australia has nothing to do with the 'Wake-Up Campaign".

So who could it be? BBOS member DownForce pointed out in a forum post that RIM was now being blamed for the "Wake Up" protest, and pointed to and article that showed why. Some digging around by an associate at Macworld Australia showed that the websites sources code pointed to RIM's AU website. Sounds, like RIM got caught with their pants down on this one.

Furthermore, RIM has since issued a statement saying they were indeed behind the Australian "Wake Up" campaign. Richelle Gillett, the Account Director from Spectrum Communications for BlackBerry has issued the following statement:

“We can confirm that the Australian ‘Wake Up’ campaign, which involves a series of experiential activities taking place across Sydney and Melbourne, was created by RIM Australia. A reveal will take place on May 7th that will aim to provoke conversation on what ‘being in business’ means to Australians.

Strange, embarrassing, awkward may all be appropriate words to describe RIM's latest advertising campaign, but it does lead us to another question. What is this "Wake Up" campaign for? There is a web site associated with this campaign that simply has a count down timer to May 7 in which RIM is apparently going to make a big announcement. RIM has mentioned that the announcement will aim to provoke conversation on what "being in business" means to Australians, one has to wonder why would they make something business like so exciting.

And the pictures continue to roll in. This time CrackBerry posted a couple of pictures of what appears to be the Alpha device we keep hearing about so much. The device is gorgeous and it apparently looks exactly like a smaller version of the PlayBook (as we were told it would). Now these pictures haven't been confirmed by RIM but I have a feeling it is the real thing.

Not sure why, but the leaked pictures triggered in my memory this old picture of the back-then unreleased Torch 9850/9860 and the look of his hands specifically (weird, I know). I have feeling this gentleman has leaked both pictures and that the device pictured above is real. May be a stretch but only a few days till we know for sure.

Research In Motion is looking for connections in the business world. Whether that is through partnerships, financial advisers, or other means has yet to be seen. This morning, Bloomberg is reporting that RIM is close to bringing on JPMorgan Chase & Co. to help analyse the company strategic options and where their next step should be.

According to their unnamed source, "RIM would prefer to license its BlackBerry mobile operating system," even though they are "racing to put the final touches on a new platform, known as BB10, and release the first smartphone built on the software later this year."

A decision about a possible deal with JPMorgan could be officially announced within the next few days, but with BlackBerry World less than two weeks away, we wouldn't be surprised to see/hear the announcement pushed back until after the event.
