It seems like yesterday BBOS hit our last milestone of 20K members. We had a great contest for our members, giving away multiple $50 gift cards toward the BBOS App Store. Good times.

Oh yeah, you heard right! So, what must you do to get a chance at winning? BBVA Compass has plans to release a native mobile banking application for the BlackBerry PlayBook. BBVA Compass will be the first financial institution to announce the development of a native application for the BlackBerry PlayBook. The FREE BlackBerry PlayBook application will empower users with a fast and convenient way to manage their BBVA Compass accounts – deposits, loans and credit cards-all through a striking setting. Users will be able to check balances, view posted and pending transactions, view check images and statements, transfer funds between BBVA Compass accounts and locate all 717 BBVA Compass branches! Alex Carriles, SVP and director of mobile and internet strategies at BBVA Compass, mentioned excitingly:

As of yet there is no native Skype app for the BlackBerry PlayBook, but there is a nice workaround that allows you to use Skype from your PlayBook by taking advantage of Adobe Flash v10.3 support in the browser. The same goes for using GTalk, Yahoo, MSN, and a few others as well. How does it work? Simply go to http://imo.im/ from your PlayBook's browser and then sign in to one of the many messaging application options.

I tried it myself, and the Skype calling works pretty good. The PlayBook's QNX microphone picked up the sound very well, and the speed was pretty fast, not much delay. Let us know if you give it a try, and how it works for you?

RIM today announced plans to launch its much-anticipated BlackBerry PlayBook tablet in Hong Kong. The BlackBerry PlayBook is scheduled to be released in early July through authorized carrier partners and retail channels in Hong Kong. This announcement comes after we reported last week that the PlayBook will be coming to 16 additional markets within the next month. Let us know if you are in Hong Kong and going to get a PlayBook!
