DOSBox is a DOS-emulator that uses the SDL-library which makes DOSBox very easy to port to different platforms. DOSBox has already been ported to many different platforms, such as Windows, BeOS, Linux, MacOS X. DOSBox also emulates CPU:286/386 realmode/protected mode, Directory FileSystem/XMS/EMS, Tandy/Hercules/CGA/EGA/VGA/VESA graphics, a SoundBlaster/Gravis Ultra Sound card for excellent sound compatibility with older games.

You can "re-live" the good old days with the help of DOSBox, it can run plenty of the old classics that don't run on your new computer!

DOSBox is totally FREE of charge and OpenSource. General DOSBox information can be found at DOSBox, an x86 emulator with DOS

    Can't Wait For #TwosDay

I'm on Twitter.. A lot. One of the things I like the most about Twitter is the trending topics aspect. In case you're unfamiliar with the concept it's pretty easy. When something "trends" it just means it's being mentioned by a lot of people on Twitter at the same time. Topics can trend locally (city/state), nationally, or even worldwide. Sometimes these topics will be marked by a hashtag (#) to make it easier for people to join in. One of the most common Twitter hashtags for BlackBerry and its users is #teamBlackBerry.

Along those lines, I was thinking today how we don't really have a name for the date of the launch of OS 2.0. We needed something catchy; something that would grab people's attention and ask more about 2.0. Let's face it, we're all excited about this release and more people need to know about it.

So in honor of this release, we at BlackBerryOS have come up with the hashtag #TwosDay for the 21st. Seems appropriate, OS 2.0 + Tuesday = #TwosDay. We've tweeted this to BlackBerry and hopefully they will jump on this suggestion but even if they don't use it themselves we will.

We want all of our readers with Twitter accounts to also join in. On the 21st, tweet your favorite new feature(s) of OS 2.0 using the hashtag #TwosDay and maybe, just maybe we can get it to trend. Happy tweeting #teamBlackBerry!

PlayBook OS 2.0 Dropping At 4:01am On The 21st

PlayBook OS 2.0 articles are as common as anything right now. All this is due to one thing: BlackBerry has yet to issue an official statement regarding the 21st. Until they do, more and more leaks will be given attention, that's just how it works. This time we have more than just verbal speech to confirm this date, we have a written document! Apparently according to this doc, OS 2.0 will be available at 4:01am, assuming EST. I know I'll be up!

Usually with pictures like this we would encourage all to take it with a grain of salt, but even with the fact that word "untethered" is spelled wrong, we're pretty sure the date at least is right on. Four days and counting till "Twosday." Maybe it'll catch on...

As the release of the PlayBook 2.0 draws closer, we see more and more things relating to it be leaked and officially put up. The latest comes from Best Buy Canada and the fact that they are now showcasing the BlackBerry PlayBook and OS 2.0 on their website. The site highlights all the goodies will be getting on OS 2.0 and Bridge 2.0 next week. I personally love seeing Best Buy get behind the release this much. We saw the Best Buy flyer get leaked yesterday and now the site is up. Very, very cool stuff from Best Buy.

PlayBook OS 2.0 Launching February 21st Officially Confirmed

We have been waiting to hear an official date for OS 2.0 a really long time from BlackBerry or a RIM employee. Ever since the first whispers of a date were published, it's all been speculation. Today though we got some official RIM confirmation. At the Developing Native Games with the BlackBerry NDK 2.0 Webcast today, Angel Aldana, RIM Manager (Latin America Alliances), confirmed the official date of PlayBook's OS 2.0 launch to be... Tuesday, February 21st! Barring any setbacks, we will have a shiny new OS on our PlayBooks in about 5 days! This is awesome.

PlayBook Price Cuts Result In 15% Total Market Share In Canada

A survey of 1,000 Canadians was completed by Toronto-based, Solutions Research Group (SRG) showing tablet ownership of the Blackberry PlayBook market share has risen from about 5 per cent of the total tablet market last fall, from 10% to 15%, a major jump that coincides with the company’s decision to slash its price by hundreds of dollars due to widespread discounting by Research In Motion Ltd.

Even though the iPad held the top spot with a 68% market share - though down from 86% before.

As it stands, the BlackBerry Playbook with all the sales and the promise of OS2 coming soon, even though the PlayBook was being sold at a loss, renewed sales of the device may be keeping consumers within the RIM fold.

With all the negativity of RIM, and the often-criticized BlackBerry PlayBook, this is definitely a very good sign that the PlayBook is going in the right direction, and now with a new PlayBook 3G and the much-anticipated OS2.0 software update on the horizon, this couldn't come at a better time.

Best Buy Flyer Shows Off PlayBook 2.0 OS; Still On Track For Feb 21st Release

The suspense is killing us but we still have to wait. OS 2.0 for the PlayBook is coming and this Best Buy Canada flyer only adds fuel to the fire. According to Mobile Syrup, this ad will be running this Friday, the 17th so it's logical the update will be coming soon after. Our sources at RIM and Best Buy are still pointing to the 21st as the release date as we originally reported back in January. Apparently the rumored release date of the 17th was going to be accurate but the BlackBerry Bridge 2.0 would not have launched until days after, RIM wanted to avoid this as much as possible. They trying to get the BlackBerry Bridge 2.0 and it's Remote Control and Open On functions ready for the Tuesday launch.

I can't help but wonder though, why BlackBerry has put out an official date out there? What's stopping them for doing so? Although that does worry a bit, I can't help but think this update will come out on time and won't get pushed back. Just let us know RIM. It wouldn't hurt.

BlackBerry Extends PlayBook Tablet Developer Offer

BlackBerry announced at the beginning of this month an offer for developers of Android and BlackBerry platforms to get more apps into App World for OS 2.0's launch this week. There has been such huge interest in submitting from developers, that BlackBerry has announced they will extending their original offer to developers to March 2nd, 2012.

How much interest has there been? According to BlackBerry's official DevBlog:
There have been over 1,500 app submissions as of last Friday and over 6600 new developers registered in the BlackBerry App World™ storefront. We have teams working around the clock to approve vendor registrations and app submissions. Because of the high demand, approvals are taking longer than normal – we appreciate your patience.
Vendors do have to be registered by the 15th of February though in order to take advantage of this offer. So if you're a developer that was thinking about submitting an app not totally complete in order to make the deadline, you know have a couple of more weeks to get that app polished and ready to go.

One of the things I personally think the PlayBook has been lacking is accessories. Yes, there are rapid charging stands and some cool covers/cases for it, but we're still waiting for a couple of cool accessories to make their way to our tablets; one of them being a docking station. Apparently PlayBook won't have to be waiting forever to get their hands on one. The guys at BlackBerryCzech have gotten some pretty cool pictures of what they say is RIM's upcoming OEM PlayBook docking station. Some of the reported features include:
    • Up to 3 USB ports
    • RJ-45 input (Ethernet input)
    • HDMI input
    • Wireless Receiver which can be used to make and receive calls

RIM Working On PlayBook OS 3.0?

    Published on 02-09-2012 03:54 PM
    Categories:
    1. BlackBerry Rumors,
    2. BlackBerry PlayBook

Even before the highly anticipated release of the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0, there are already talks of OS 3.0. Yes, it may be a bit premature to talk about OS 3.0 as 2.0 has not even been embraced by the public yet or even fine-tuned with patches. However, that's not stopping the rumor mill.

According to sources over at n4bb RIM is already actively developing OS 3.0 for the PlayBook. Could this really be true? Before dismissing this as nonsense, it may have some merit. PlayBook OS 2.0 is done and its set to be released sometime within the next few weeks. So where does that leave the PlayBook OS? It may be possible that we only see a few updates on OS 2.0 and RIM releases OS 3.0 to adapt to BlackBerry 10 devices. Could this be something for the PlayBook 3G models?

As with any news like this all one can do is ponder at what might be. We will have to see how this one plays out.
