InPulse Smartwatch recently received an update to it's firmware & smartphone app to make it OS7 compatible.

    The smartphone app update includes:

    • Finally, working support for OS 7! Tested on BB 9900 and 9810. Our recommendation: Use your old OS5 or 6 Blackberry to load the latest firmware (3.9.4) onto your watch, then you can begin using inPulse with OS 7.
    • Introducing the ability to download free watchapps right to your watch! Browse the inPulse app to see what is available
    • Be sure to update the firmware on your watch after downloading. Download Apps -> Default Notification App -> Load
    • If you happen to get your watch into a non-working state, you can always revert to factory firmware mode by holding the button down until the display says 'loading...'

    • Download inPulseBB app Version 3.5.7

The BlackBerry PlayBook has slowly been seeking to establish its presents in just about every market, especially the enterprise market. Mobile Innovations, a company that specializes in integrating mobile solutions within law enforcement operations, has included the PlayBook in its list of mobile solutions.

The concept behind utilizing the PlayBook is actually really simple; let it do all the work. Here is how it works. The PlayBook can be placed on a mount in the center of the vehicle that also functions as a charger and a USB port replicator. The USB slots can then connect the existing in-car peripherals like the printer, dash mounted drivers license scanner, CAN bus, camera system, SSD in the trunk, and keyboard. the PlayBook is now the central control point for everything in the police cruiser from lights to booking information.

Looks like BlackBerry App World has made it out of the Beta Zone as of right now. If you head on over to the official app world site you can download version 3.0.1.29 . A few days ago we reported that version 3.0.1.28 was available in the Beta Zone, and that there were quite a few updates. There were a few mixed thoughts on version 3.0.1.28 as many thought it was still a work in progress. With version 3.0.1.29 already available to the public, and released with no change log we can only assume that the changes with .28 have been applied to this release. Could this be the final release that we see for a while? Let us know your thoughts on this version of App World.

BlackBerry WebWorks SDK For Smartphone And Tablet v2.2 Now Available

Over the past few weeks it seems as though RIM has gone to great lengths in order to ensure that developers have all the necessary tools to make great apps for BlackBerry devices. RIM has released version 2.2 of their popular WebWorks SDK. There are a few new features so be sure to check it out. Here are some of the changes and new features in this release:
    • Mac OSX Support – Need we say more? This very exciting and highly demanded feature is now available. A Mac version of the WebWorks SDK installer is available for developers to use and build WebWorks applications using OSX.
    • Payment API – the same API that was recently made available for the BlackBerry® WebWorks™ SDK for PlayBook OS can now be used to sell digital goods through WebWorks applications running on BlackBerry Smartphones. This feature gives developers an incredible monetization opportunity for increasing the revenue of their applications. Read more about our payment service.
    • BB7 net_rim_api.jar – The underlying API library used by the BlackBerry WebWorks SDK has been updated to the BlackBerry® 7 developer APIs. This means that WebWorks developers can now create their own JavaScript Extensions and make use of APIs found in BlackBerry Device Software versions 5.0, BlackBerry 6 and BlackBerry 7.
    • BBM APIs – Developers can now find the BlackBerry WebWorks APIs needed to integrate their applications with the BBM Social platform automatically included as part of the BlackBerry WebWorks SDK. Read more about the BBM Social Platform SDK.
    • Side by side installs – The installer has been modified to produce a standalone install of the WebWorks SDK for Smartphone. This feature gives developers the ability to build different versions of their applications based on different versions of the BlackBerry WebWorks SDK, which is often a requirement for supporting production code.
    • Memory leak fixes – many performance and stability improvements have been made to the BlackBerry WebWorks SDK to fix memory problems encountered with WebWorks applications running on BlackBerry 6 and 7 OS smartphones.

RIM Gives Reason For No OS 7 Theme Builder

    Categories:
    1. BlackBerry Themes,
    2. BlackBerry News

Many have been wondering why there has not been a theme builder for OS 7 devices yet. There has not been much said by RIM regarding the issue other than they were working on it. Surprisingly it wasn't even revealed a DevCon this past week. Now we have a little more of an idea to why there has been a delay. A tweet from Alec Saunders, RIM's new VP of Developer Relations, states that the theme engine has been delayed because

"Liquid Graphics broke theme engines, and I’m working with team to determine if we can fix.”
So at least now we have some closure to why it has not been released. Hopefully the issue will get resolved soon. I am excited to see what some of the talented theme developers will come up with. Are you a theme developer just itching to create a theme for OS 7?

RIM From Good To Bad In One Day, Lawsuit Threatens BBX Name

    by
    ice2921
    Published on 10-20-2011 05:39 AM
    Categories:
    1. BlackBerry News

Just when all the excitement over RIM's new BBX platform seems to have peaked, RIM has been struck with yet another lawsuit. This time it is in direct relation to the BBX name. BASIS International a global software company, promptly took legal action after RIM's press release about the BBX name stating that the name is causing great confusion with in its world wide customer base.

In an official statment ASIS Chairman and CEO, Nico Spence, said,
“We have thousands of product licenses installed worldwide with the ‘BBX’ prefix that run on Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, and other proprietary UNIX OSs from IBM, Hewlett-Packard, and SUN, with mobile clients running Apple iOS, Google Android, and Windows Mobile. We are fielding numerous customer inquiries voicing their confusion about the RIM announcement.”
    It seems as though RIM never took the time to review the current trademarks. The ironic part here is that Spence also states the following;
“Ironically, BASIS’ BBx may aid RIM in its quest to grab a share of the application market for mobile devices in that any application created with BASIS’ BBx for the Android or iOS mobile devices will also run on BlackBerry products.”
RIM has release the following statement regarding the issue:
“RIM has not yet received a copy of the legal complaint described in Basis International’s press release, but we do not believe the marks are confusing, particularly since our respective companies are in different lines of business."
Who would have thought this early in the game that RIM would be facing legal problems. We will keep you posted on this as it unfolds. I wonder what the new name will be if they have to change it. What do you think it should be called?

It's seems just like it was yesterday that many of you were affected by RIMpocalypse.

As mentioned earlier this week, RIM has partnered with several app developers to provide FREE premium apps as a compensation for the outage.

The first developer to bring the offer/promotion to App World is iSpeech with their DriveSafe.ly Pro app. Typically a $19.99 USD value, the app is FREE for a limited time.

DriveSafe.ly 2.0 speaks txt (SMS) and email messages aloud so you can concentrate on the road. Eliminate temptation to drive distracted-let DriveSafe.ly read txts (texts) and respond by voice with Pro.

    BlackBerry Jam: Developers Resources Rebranding

    1. BlackBerry News

In the excitement of the first day of BlackBerry Devcon 2011, several announcements were made today. One of the best announcements we seen today was a BlackBerry Jam, a central location where developers will be able to find a large selection of developers resources.

    • Jamming is innovating together - Build and innovative on the BlackBerry® Application Platform in your development language of choice.
    • Jamming is collaborating together - Connect with experts, partners and the broader community to be more successful on the BlackBerry platform.
    • Jamming is creating success together - Get help to go to market, be more profitable and build your business.
I don't quite think the name fits the typical BlackBerry branding, but quirky name aside, this will be a great place for new & veteran developers to grow in the BlackBerry development knowledge.

Scoreloop SDK Now Available in Beta Zone

What a wild day we are having in the BlackBerry world. It seems as though the Beta Zone users are getting some love from RIM as well. Earlier we reported that the eBay app for BlackBerry was updated, and now there is even more great news. Scoreloop SDK has been made available in the Beta Zone.

Scoreloop provides everything you need to add social elements to any game. From developers to brands, operators and OEMs, Scoreloop’s social gaming ecosystem and SDK creates instant communities and connections, and new ways to generate revenues from mobile games.
At this time its looks as though there are no downloads available, but I suspect they should start appearing real soon. So once again head on over to the Beta Zone and start updating.
