A recent study conducted by the IDC among Mexico's largest companies (over 250 employees), shows how absolute BlackBerry's dominance in the enterprise arena in Latin America really is. The study concludes that over 79.4% of these companies run BlackBerry devices throughout their corporate channels.

Moreover, after interviewing companies with 1,000+ employees in seven different South American countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, México, Perú and Venezuela), IDC's study showed over 65% of them use BlackBerry smartphones.

The percentages break down as follows:

    • Venezuela 84,6%
    • México 79.4%
    • Chile 75.1%
    • Colombia 74.4%
    • Argentina 67.9%
    • Perú 67.4%
    • Brasil 47%

According to Celia Sarauza, analyst at IDC, RIM's leadership is due to the fact that "security is a very important factor for companies" and as we all know, that's something that BlackBerry not only leads in, but continues to excel at.

Research In Motion is doing the best it can to help out developers on the way to BlackBerry 10. We've seen this in the BB10 Jam Tour and in the tools they are putting out. Today, the BlackBerry Developers Blog featured a post by Tim Neil, in which he gave everyone a little insight as to what is on its way for developers.

He starts off by explaining how RIM will be providing developers with various beta BlackBerry 10 SDKs, which will ultimately lead up to the "Gold" BlackBerry 10 SDK sometime down the line. You can tell RIM is trying to get it about as perfect as possible before releasing it to the developers, so as to leave no excuse for someone to not develop for BlackBerry 10.

He was kind enough to share some of the APIs that will be made available to developers in the coming betas:
I won’t list all of the APIs that are coming, but I’ll list the hot topics where I usually get inquiries:

    • BBM™
    • PIM (Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, Notes)
    • Messages/Email
    • NFC
    • Share/Invoke Framework
      • Adding your menu item to an existing app
      • Invoking and being invoked by another app

    • String pattern registry
    • Geocoding & reverse geocoding
    • Bluetooth®
I personally cannot wait till these APIs are out there. The deep integration that will come from this will be outstanding and will ultimately benefit us, the end users, the most.

Washington, DC - Earlier in the month the U.S Department of Defense (DoD) released their mobile device strategy. The seven page document identifies the DoD goals for capitalizing on the use of mobile devices and applications, within the DoD IT infrastructure.

The unclassified documents try to address the growing need to a centralized mobile device and application management. "Although mobile devices are the new and popular item in today's commercial market, this strategy is not simply about embracing the newest technology; it is about keeping the DoD workforce relevant in an era when information and cyberspace play a critical role in mission success," writes DoD Chief Information Officer Teresa Takai in the forward. The DoD's mobile device strategy can be reduced to three main goals:

Looks like the first BB 10 device series are beginning to see the early stages of the release procedures at RIM. A leaked internal document from RIM claims to have some information regarding two new BlackBerry 10 devices. What is being deemed the L-series and N-series may reference the previously internal code names BlackBerry London and the BlackBerry Nevada.

Similar to the BlackBerry 10 Alpha device the BlackBerry 10 L-series is said to have an impressive 365 PPI, 768×1280 screen resolution. That offers quite a refreshing display compared to previous BlackBerry smartphones. Here are some of the leaked screen specifications of the BlackBerry 10 L-series:

    • 768×1280 screen resolution
    • 55mm wide
    • 356 PPI

In addition to the BlackBerry 10 L-series, some information regarding the N-series has also leaked. The N-series is said to be RIM's first BlackBerry 10 device with a physical QWERTY keyboard. Its shape is eerily similar to some current BlackBerry models that we already know. Although looks may be secondary to some when comparing it to device functionality. The leaked specifications regarding the BlackBerry N-series are as follows:

    • 720×720 screen resolution
    • 52 – 53mm wide
    • 330 PPI

You can see the obvious difference in the screen size, but still very nice quality. This is exciting news as we eagerly await the launch of BB 10. Although this information is leaked it still sounds very promising.

Spotify has finally come out of the public beta they were running and will now be available to certain BlackBerry users via App World.

For those of you wondering, Spotify is an app that allows you to stream tons of songs directly to your BlackBerry device with a simple click. It's actually a really nifty app and does all its functions extremely well. Many that have tried the beta out rave about it so it's definitely cool to see it finally hit App World.

Now, why did we say only a certain amount of BlackBerry users can get it? Well, Spotify has informed us that the app currently only supports certain GSM and CDMA carriers' BlackBerry devices. Apparently, Verizon BlackBerry devices are one of the group that isn't being supported right now.

No word on if/when other devices will be supported but we definitely hope that is the case in the near future. For now though head on over to App World and check to see if your device is supported. Leave us a comment below to let us know if your device/carrier is supported!
