    5,200 BlackBerry PlayBook's Stolen

The Chesterfield Indiana police department along with the FBI Interstate Theft Task Force are currently investigating the recent theft of over 5,200 BlackBerry PlayBooks's. The PlayBook's valued at between $1.7 million and $5 million dollars, were hijacked from a semi truck that was parked outside a Pilot truck stop. The driver went inside to grab a bite to eat and when he came out his truck was gone.

Now I wonder if we are going to see a spike in PlayBook sales on eBay and Amazon just in time for the Holiday season. This is certainly one way to get some PlayBook's out to the public.

BBM Music Trial Extended For More Four Months

Research In Motion is apparently feeling very generous with its BBM Music users this holiday season. RIM is extending the BBM Music trial to anyone that has downloaded the app between December 16th, 2011 to January 4th, 2012 to 4 months. Also, RIM has let us know they will be extending current users to an extra four months as well. For some, this will make it an extended trial of 6 total months total.

Unfortunately, there will definitely be some unhappy users that have already upgraded to a premium account not knowing RIM would be offering this extended trial. How this offer will affect them is not really clear but odds are they will be on the outside looking in.

BeBuzz is one of my personal favorite apps. The ability to control the color of the LED on our BlackBerrys should be a native function but since it isn't, BeBuzz helps customize it in a seamless way. BeBuzz is one of the most successful BlackBerry apps, and with their latest update it's pretty evident why.

    LED Light Colors
Assign custom LED light colors to about anything on your device. From e-mails, SMS and calls from specific contacts to missed calls, BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) and many 3rd party apps.

    Repeating Audible Reminders
Keep your phone's audible notifiers repeating until you acknowledge them.

    On-Screen Messages
Small unobtrusive on-screen messages ("toasts") at the bottom or top of the screen.

    Vibrate-While-Ringing
Have vibrate while ringing for many notifiers and incoming calls
    • Purchase BeBuzz on sale for $2.99 or upgrade your current version of BeBuzz for $1.99

It seems as though RIM is pleased with App Worlds speed and performance adjustements that they made in the beta release just a few days ago. BlackBerry App World version 3.1.0.56 is now showing up as an official release. The biggest changes in the last beta release were to speed and performance. This was a breath of fresh air as we were so used to a slow, lagging App World.

If you're not seeing the update be patient it will come. In the meantime keep checking the official page here.

From RIM’s Conference Call: Dual-Core LTE BlackBerrys & CEO Paycuts

In light of RIM's conference call today, not only do we now know that the first BlackBerry 10 devices will run with a dual-core LTE capable chipset, but also RIM's co-CEO's, Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie, will be cutting their annual salaries down to $1.

According to Forbes, Jim and Mike both receive $1,175,664 per year. And while they may not receive annual bonuses, they both receive limited stock awards which investment terms are unknown. Either way, it's good to see them put their money where their mouth is.

Update: The particular chipset RIM hopes to use won’t be available until the middle of 2012. Lazaridis concedes that the launch window for BlackBerry 10 devices will come toward "the latter part of 2012."

Strategic Launch Of BlackBerry 10 Key To RIM's Success In 2012

    by

    Published on 12-15-2011 06:58 AM

It is pretty clear that 2011 hasn't been the most stellar year for RIM this year. From falling stock, to a bumpy PlayBook launch it would seem as though everything has gone wrong for the BlackBerry maker. Even the launch of its new OS 7 devices seem to have mixed reviews. It's all about the good, the bad, and the ugly for RIM these days.

So called analysts from all over think they have RIM's future all planned out, but history has shown few actually get it right. According to Wall Street RIM's story will only get worse, as shares slipped to a seven-year low at $15. In addition, RIM told us earlier that the PlayBook sales were poor, and that they were actually taking a loss. All of this has left some divided within the BlackBerry community, and many have jumped on the RIM failure bandwagon. Regardless of which side your on, looking at the raw facts clearly tell us that there are issues.

One of the areas where RIM has struggled with has been the ability to adjust to structural market shifts. This is not easy thing to do as we have seen the disaster of company's like Palm, and Motorola. Rod Hall of J.P Morgan states that “Only excellent execution on new BB 10 devices has the potential to drive better numbers in our view, “However, we need to see evidence in order to feel more constructive.” I agree, the key to RIM having a better year next year greatly depends on the launch of BlackBerry 10. If RIM launches BlackBerry 10 to late in the year it could face strong competition from Apples iphone 5 and all the new Android devices that are bound to launch next year. RIM should not be in a place where another device is trumping its glory.

Strategic planning, and strong device launches I believe, are a must for RIM in order to have a good year in 2012. Later today RIM will report results for its fiscal third quarter.

Indonesia Threatens to Block BlackBerry Services

The Indonesian telecommunication regulation body (BRTI) has threatened to block BlackBerry data services in Indonesia. The block is a response to the heavy traffic that the country's service providers have experienced and RIM's inability to provide adequate data centers to lighten the load. The service block would include BBM and BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service), essentially forcing the BlackBerry device to operate as a generic cell phone. BRTI member Heru Sutadi told The Jakarta Post on Friday that, “Because RIM has not been cooperative, it is possible that we will soon end BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) and BBM service. BlackBerry therefore, would just be like other cellular phones,”.

BlackBerry Mobile Conferencing App v2.0 Available In App World

It was merely 6 months ago that BlackBerry Mobile Conferencing was initially launched. The app was silently updated this week to v2.0

BlackBerry Mobile Conferencing App v2.0 brings many tweaks & updates, including:

    • Email to Meeting Conversion – help put an end to long email threads by scheduling a conference call using the “Schedule Conference” menu item on any email. The sender and recipients of the email are included as meeting attendees, the email subject becomes your meeting subject and part of the email message is copied into your invite automatically. Just add your conference call details from a stored profile, click send and you’re set.
    • Better Conference Call Recognition – using examples from user feedback.
    • Conference Call ID – keep track of the conference calls you’ve participated in. When you join a conference call, the meeting subject appears as the caller ID in the phone app. And when the call is over, the meeting subject appears in your call history.
    • Conference Profiles Increased to 10 – Users can instantly add preset conference call details to almost any meeting they schedule by selecting from up to ten stored profiles.
    • Private Moderator Codes – You can keep your moderator codes private. For meeting invitations you created, the app can use your conference profiles to dial you in as the moderator. That means you can leave your moderator code out of invites sent from your computer for added privacy without sacrificing convenience.
