Ingram Micro Inc., the worlds largest technology distributor, has reached a deal with RIM to distribute the BlackBerry PlayBook to re-seller partners in the UK.

It has been a bit of a rocky road between consumers and RIM's BlackBerry PlayBook, but BlackBerry has still maintained a very strong presence in the business market. RIM's BlackBerry devices are still the choice among many organizations in which security and mobile communications are paramount.

The BlackBerry PlayBook has been a step up in many organizations ability to be more productive via cloud services. RIM's UK managing director Stephen Bates said that “Our agreement with Ingram Micro will allow us to broaden and enhance our distribution of the BlackBerry PlayBook. We are leveraging our strengths in communications, social integration and productivity with their strengths in unified communications, software solutions and overall channel reach,” This is no little deal Ingram Micro, has local sales offices in 26 countries, has over 105 distribution centers worldwide, represents over 1,300 vendors, and is the only global broad-based IT distributor in Asia. This kind exposure and distribution is exactly what RIM needs for the PlayBook.

Ingram Micro also has a dedicated team that is focused on unified communications, and cloud business development managers. This makes it an ideal fit for the PlayBook as it fits in well with Microsoft Office 365. “Ingram Micro is once again providing a solid, expansive offering to meet the needs of resellers, Our continued growth in the telecommunications segment and the ongoing convergence of software and mobile technologies, enhanced with the inclusion of Microsoft Office capabilities on BlackBerry smartphones and the addition of the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet to our product portfolio, is driving BlackBerry as a strong platform for mobile users of Microsoft Office 365.” said Matt Sanderson, managing director at Ingram Micro.

RIM is looking to push the PlayBook even more into its enterprise market and this new move will do just that. The PlayBook is expected to become even more desirable later on this year as it will be compatible with RIM's much anticipated, BB 10 platform.

We've known that BlackBerry 10 will be making its way to the BlackBerry PlayBook since BlackBerry World two weeks ago. The thing is, all the excitement of the BlackBerry 10 demos from the keynote, the Dev Alpha device and all the hype surrounding the Cascades SDK being given to developers made this little tidbit kind of fall between the cracks and go a little unnoticed.

Today, @BlackBerryDev sent out the above tweet as a reply to a question about Cascades/BB10 on the PlayBook and it served as a little reminder to us. This obviously put a smile on a lot of people's faces that had maybe forgotten about this cool fact.

Our BlackBerry PlayBooks, which for many users are over a year old, are so solid in terms of hardware, that they will be able to run BlackBerry 10 without any problems. How cool is that? No need to buy anything. All you have to do is make sure you don't break it while we wait.

Carriers have mostly all switched to tiered data packages in the recent year and a half or so and have moved away from old unlimited data plans they once offered. Normally, all of these carriers have allowed customers that had these unlimited data plans before the switch was made to stay on them without any problems.

These "grandfathered" plans are still to this day one of the biggest reasons many people choose to stay on the carrier they are on as oppose to switching to a new one where an unlimited data plan is not possible to acquire.

Verizon is one of these carriers that has migrated to tiered data plans and will be making another switch this summer in their data plans to what they refer to as "data-sharing" plans. Along with this move, Verizon CFO Fran Shammo stated at the 40th J.P. Morgan Technology, Media and Telecom conference that "everyone [including those on grandfathered unlimited data plans] will be on data share."

This definitely comes as big news to many that absolutely despise the idea of not having an unlimited data plan. Verizon is using the change over to LTE as the main reason for this change in policy and to be quiet honest, it sort of makes sense.

Thankfully for us BlackBerry users (unless you tether), this really shouldn't present much of a problem. BlackBerry devices are known to be extremely efficient when it comes to data management so odds are, you probably wont even notice the change.

    Your move, AT&T.

RIM's R&D department has been getting busy this year with some new creative ideas. RIM latest patent proposes a battery-charging holster. Yes, that's right a cell phone holster that will charge your Blackberry. How cool would that been. The idea behind the new holster is that it would charge your BlackBerry on the go and give you notifications through built in speakers. Sounds interesting. Would this mean an end to battery charging as we know it?

Score one for BlackBerry exclusively. Rogers, a mobile carrier, and CIBC, a bank, have announced they will launching a mobile wallet app that will support NFC-enabled BlackBerry smartphones later this year in Canada.

Why is this important? Wel,l this will allow any user that has this app to make mobile payments using their BlackBerry device instead of a credit card. In order to do so, one will hold their BlackBerry up to the NFC terminal, a prompt on the phone will appear asking for their card PIN and that's it. Transaction complete!

Sounds pretty cool right? We think so too and we believe this is just the start of the future of mobile payments and for the time being, it's a BlackBerry-only thing.
