I've always wanted a futuristic alarm clock that spoke to me when I wake up in the Morning. Ninja Otter recently announced my prayers with the release of Wakeful. Wakeful is an alarm clock application that helps you kick off your day productively by providing you with your life's most important information when waking up.

Waking up to weather forecast, daily news, stocks & more is something that for most will speed up tons of individuals in the morning.

I had the great opportunity of trying the beta version of this application in March. The bugs that were in the initial beta version (incorrect time, server backlog) have been resolved with the official launch.

For a short time, you can get a 50% discount on the application by entering "WAKEUP" at checkout.

In February, Research In Motion announced that they were offering a trade-in program for their United States, but left Canada out of the plans. Well, last week Canada was added to the BlackBerry Trade Up program.

Depending on the condition of your old BlackBerry, RIM is offering $170 to trade in your old smartphone for a new one.

Some of eligible models for trade-in include BlackBerry Pearl series, BlackBerry Curve series, BlackBerry Bold series, BlackBerry Storm series, BlackBerry Tour series, BlackBerry 8700 or BlackBerry 8800.

IF you wish to trade in 6 or more BlackBerry smartphones, you can contact us them by email or phone at 1-888-890-0199.

BBC upsets RIM Co-CEO Mike Lazaridis - stops interview when asked about India and the Middle East

Canadian founder of Research in Motion, Mike Lazaridis, abruptly ordered a BBC journalist to stop their interview over questions about BlackBerrys in India and the Middle East. Lazaridis went on to say:

“That’s just not fair,” “We have no security problem. We’ve got the most secure platform. We’ve just been singled out because we’re so successful.”
Cellan-Jones had asked if the RIM had fixed the problems it was having with governments in India and the United Arab Emirates which were demanding the ability to monitor data over its secure corporate BlackBerry service. When Cellan-Jones pressed Lazaridis, asking if he could “confidentially tell” customers in India and the Middle East that they could keep using their BlackBerrys, Lazaridis exploded:

“The interview is over. You can’t use that, Rory. It’s just not fair. This is a national security issue. Turn that off.”

If you have been wondering how BlackBerry Messenger will be on the PlayBook, we have a small demo showing us that by syncing your device to the PlayBook via the BlackBerry bridge, you will be able to chat on your tablet. Will PlayBook users have to have a BlackBerry in order to use BBM? Seems like for now, yes. I imagine that when BlackBerry ID becomes the norm, then having to bridge with a BlackBerry in order to use BBM on the PlayBook may be a thing of the past. Watch the video and give us your thoughts.

RIM taking care of PlayBook warranty support and repairs

    by
    Joe Jerde

    Categories:

RIM seems to be taking a page from Apple as they enter into the world of consumer warranty and repair service. Previously, consumers were required to go through their carriers for repairs and service. I'll be curious to see how they handle out of Country inquiries. Read on for the details:

RIM will provide complimentary out of the box support for 90 days after a BlackBerry PlayBook has been activated. This covers the device and in-box accessories including how-to and setup inquiries. Customers are told to contact these two numbers:
RIM will have a out of the box limited warranty and repair service directly to end users for 12 months after activation of a BlackBerry PlayBook. It will also offer an Advance Exchange or Same Unit Repair service.
RIM will offer additional technical support and warranty coverage for a period of 2 years following activation of the Tablet to end-users who purchase the BlackBerry Total Care Program. RIM will offer Advance BlackBerry PlayBook Exchange as a repair service solution. Consumers can purchase the program anytime within the 12-month Limited Warranty period.
Make sure to leave us a comment on what you think about RIM providing direct support for the PlayBook. Will it be better, or worse, than going through your carrier?

Twitter for BlackBerry v1.1 officially launched!

Twitter for BlackBerry v1.1 has finally made the jump from Beta Zone to app World. This update bring a newer, more fluid UI & a new branding.

**It may take a few hours before you see this update in App World**

Some of the new features include:
    • Geo-tagging
You now have the option to attach your location based on neighbourhood and city to any tweet, and view others' geo-tagged tweets in BlackBerry Maps. (Note: To enable geo-tagging please follow these steps within the Twitter app, Menu > Options > Add location to tweet)

    • Push @Mentions
Now you can easily stay up-to-date on who is mentioning you at any given time!

    • Tweet Count Notifications
Twitter for BlackBerry smartphones 1.1 lets you know the number of new tweets that are waiting for you to view, integrated right into the tweet notification. How convenient is that?!

    • #Topic Autocomplete
Similar to the functionality of @User autocomplete, you can now easily tweet #Topics with the help of the #Topic autocomplete feature. Simply begin typing the #Topic you are looking for, and Twitter for BlackBerry smartphones 1.1 will auotcomplete the topic based on your previous tweets and #Topic selections.

    • DM Redesign
If you make use of the Direct Message (DM) functionality then you’ll definitely notice the DM redesign in this version of Twitter for BlackBerry smartphones. Direct Messages has been renamed to Messages to align with the online Twitter experience. We’ve also redesigned the Messages interface to follow a threaded conversation style similar to BBM.

    • Screen Refresh
It’s now easier than ever to refresh your Tweet timeline while using a touch-screen device! We have implemented a new pull-to-refresh feature which allows you to simply pull down on the top part of your touch screen and release for your updated Twitter messages list. Refreshing has never been easier!

    • Refreshed Twitter Branding
Twitter for BlackBerry smartphones 1.1 graphics have been updated to align with the new look of the Twitter brand – more specifically, the classic Twitter ‘T’ has been replaced by the Twitter bird.
