After much wait, BlackBerry Messenger v6.0 is now available in Beta Zone. You may not notice many new features in the UI, but it is confirmed that it is compatible with OS 5.0 and 6.0 devices!

RIM pushes for Hulu access on the Blackberry PlayBook

RIM is working with Hulu to bring Hulu Plus to the BlackBerry PlayBook after Hulu blocked BlackBerry PlayBook users from accessing Hulu.com on Thursday, just days after the tablet launched in stores. PC Mag and The Wall Street Journal report the same email statement from RIM on a resolution:

"We are in conversations with Hulu to bring the Hulu Plus subscription service to BlackBerry PlayBook users."
Rather bland and predictable statement, right? Hulu traditionally blocks non-desktop access on tablets, mobile phones, and set-top boxes in order to encourage users to subscribe to its new Hulu Plus service for $7.99/month. Perhaps we'll see a quick resolution to this conflict. We'll keep you updated on any changes.

Three reasons why the PlayBook will succeed

In what only seemed like an eternity, Research In Motion has finally released the BlackBerry PlayBook just three days ago, and let me (and millions of other BlackBerry addicts) tell you, the wait was completely worth it. Asides from the PlayBook receiving somewhat negative reviews and early criticism from various professionals, I firmly believe that the PlayBook will succeed in ways people could not even imagine.

Here are three reasons why the PlayBook will be a direct threat to Apple:

    1. Constant Updates

Yes, the PlayBook does not have native email support. And yes, it is missing BlackBerry Messenger, which should have been initially launched with the final retailed build. But you know what? Research In Motion is not ignoring these critical updates. I spoke to Shaun Coghlan, Senior Product Manager at R.I.M. at the PlayBook Launch Party this week, and he claimed that although BBM was missing from the launch, it is something that is not going to be delayed for no longer than a couple of weeks. This is great news, because unlike Apple, who neglects critical updates for a lengthy period (copy & paste, anyone?), we can put our faith and trust in R.I.M. to deliver timely updates. And we have also had two PlayBook OS updates in a matter of two days, which is fantastic news for those who love to keep their technology up to date.

Jennifer Lopez stopped at Best Buy in Los Angeles to promote the launch of Blackberry PlayBook with some lucky fans. At the event, she signed autographs for the first 200 fans who purchased the new Blackberry tablet or pre-ordered her new album 'LOVE?'. She then sent out tweets to her 1.5+ million twitter followers letting them know where she was going to be promoting the PlayBook, which created quite a stir and she had to exit out the back entrance to avoid the building mob of fans. You can see the tweet she sent out by going to her official Twitter page. Did you make it to the event?

Just got this announcement via Email as Verizon continues to expand their 4G service across the country. Back in January we reported Verizon Wireless' 2011 4G LTE city roll out which tells us that at the end of 2011, we should see at least 140 markets be blanketed with LTE coverage, and by 2013, Verizon is aiming to have at least 2/3 of the country covered. Below are the most recent cities added to the 4G rollout:

    • Charlotte, NC
    • Wilmington, NC
    • Greater Lehigh Valley, PA
    • Columbia, SC
    • Hilton Head, SC
    • Clarksville, TN
    • Cleveland, TN

First day BlackBerry PlayBook sales exceed expectations

Further conflicting news come forward on the early sales of the BlackBerry PlayBook as Zach Epstein from BGR reports market data that may, or may not, surprise you:

Amid multiple reports to the contrary, RBC Capital Markets General Manager Mike Abramsky on Wednesday said first day PlayBook sales likely exceeded analysts’ expectations. In a note to investors, Abramsky states that RIM may have moved about 50,000 PlayBook tablets on launch day alone, including pre-order sales. The analyst and his team placed calls to 70 different Best Buy, Staples and RadioShack locations to inquire about PlayBook sales performance on launch day. Reported performance ranged from light sales in some locations to sell-outs, which occurred at 11% of the stores RBC polled. RBC also used Best Buy’s online inventory tool to check stock at 180 additional locations in 10 major U.S. cities, and found that the 16GB PlayBook is unavailable at 13% of stores, the 32GB model is unavailable at 87% of stores and the 64GB model is unavailable at 91% of the locations viewed. As preliminary inventory quantities for these stores is currently unknown, this information is of little use since many stores might not have received higher-capacity PlayBook models to begin with. Finally, Abramsky notes that the PlayBook may have outperformed first-day sales of Motorola’s XOOM and even Samsung’s popular Galaxy Tab, and he believes RIM is on track to sell 500,000 PlayBook tablets in its first quarter of availability.
How well do you think the PlayBook will do? Any predictions?

BlackBerry Curve Touch to be revealed at BlackBerry World - June-July launch?

Details emerge today surrounding the GSM twin to the upcoming Malibu - which will be a CDMA BlackBerry Curve Touch with a possible launch come late fall. BGR got information from a trusted source that:

"the device featured T-Mobile branding and would be unveiled at BlackBerry World next month. Compared to the rest of the 2011 Curve lineup, the device is actually a much smaller full touchscreen Curve. It’s similar to the BlackBerry Touch, with the same proportions as the BlackBerry Orlando (Curve with a touchscreen and full QWERTY keyboard) and the BlackBerry Apollo that we leaked back in January. The GSM BlackBerry Curve Touch will launch around June or July"
Is the BlackBerry Curve Touch on your list of devices this year?
