Research In Motion is looking for connections in the business world. Whether that is through partnerships, financial advisers, or other means has yet to be seen. This morning, Bloomberg is reporting that RIM is close to bringing on JPMorgan Chase & Co. to help analyse the company strategic options and where their next step should be.

According to their unnamed source, "RIM would prefer to license its BlackBerry mobile operating system," even though they are "racing to put the final touches on a new platform, known as BB10, and release the first smartphone built on the software later this year."

A decision about a possible deal with JPMorgan could be officially announced within the next few days, but with BlackBerry World less than two weeks away, we wouldn't be surprised to see/hear the announcement pushed back until after the event.

Back in February, Kayak released a statement saying they would no longer provide support for their BlackBerry smartphone app. Apparently they didn't stay away from BlackBerry altogether, as we've seen the official launch of Kayak Travel For PlayBook today in App World. This repackaged/ported Android version brings an updated UI & more user-friendly menus.

It is likely that Kayak decided to port this app due to the high demand of PlayBook users who requested it.

I love the Beta Zone, it's no secret. I think it's been extremely underrated over the last year or so and is quite frankly one of the few things RIM has done correctly. Today, RIM has sent out an email announcing the split of the Beta Zone that will be coming very soon. The split will be separating the enterprise and consumer based beta apps into two separate sites. This is definitely a welcome change for Beta Zone employees and users alike.

Also, according to our little sources, the new Beta Zone will have a different look and feel. It will be more along the lines of a blog and will be a lot more user-friendly for those of us that frequent it. The new sites are rumored to be launching next Tuesday (#TwosDay!), April 24th.

Check out the email from the BlackBerry Beta Zone below!
BlackBerry Beta Zone has grown significantly since its launch nearly three years ago and we are pleased to inform you that it will be evolving soon to better suit both consumers and business members who participate regularly in BlackBerry beta programs. BlackBerry Beta Zone will soon have a brand new sub-site, BlackBerry Beta Zone for Business, focusing on beta programs for business software and services. BlackBerry Beta Zone for Business will offer:

Business specific beta programs and content
    An improved mobile browsing experience
    Updated community features
The update is expected to occur in the coming weeks and requires no action on your part. While logged into BlackBerry Beta Zone for Business, you will be able to access all your business beta programs on behalf of your organization. Your existing BlackBerry Beta Zone account remains valid for consumer beta programs as well.

After the update, the URLs for BlackBerry Beta Zone will be as follows:

BlackBerry Beta Zone – Business: www.blackberry.com/businessbeta
BlackBerry Beta Zone – Consumer: www.blackberry.com/beta

Once logged in to either site, switching between business and consumer is simple, seamless, and will not require another login.

We are very excited for the changes coming to BlackBerry Beta Zone and we look forward to your continued participation in BlackBerry beta programs.

Should you have any questions, please reply or contact us at enterprisebeta@rim.com.

    Best regards,

    BlackBerry Beta Programs

One of our inquiring minds on the BBOS team, @furiousguido, has just received an official answer from Skype via the @SkypeSupport twitter handle on the status of a Skype app coming to the PlayBook tablet. PlayBook users have had hopes that with the new and improved updates coming out for PlayBook, that we would see a Skype PlayBook app soon. Not the case, as Skype Support has tweeted that there are "no plans for BlackBerry PlayBook compatible Skype release."

Be sure to leave your feedback to Skype on why the PlayBook should have a native Skype app. Let the riots begin!

And another one bites the dust. The visual voice-mail company YouMail has decided to part ways with BlackBerry. YouMail was recently updated to version 2.7.8 with many improvements to including the ability to ditch callers, new faster UI, and even completely removed ads from within the app. However despite, all of these improvements and bug fixes CEO Alex Quilici stated the release was "bittersweet", and that they were suspending doing and further work on the BlackBerry app.

The reasoning behind this decision was that lack of BlackBerry users using the app. YouMail is listed among the top ten app in the productivity section of BlackBerry App World. Still, Quilici mentioned that his company has seen a steady decline with BlackBerry users over the past year. According to Quilici those users have moved to other mobile platforms like the iPhone and Android.

YouMail has been a popular app among BlackBerry users. However, its exodus from BlackBerry leaves some concerns regarding the user base for BlackBerry apps. RIM has been actively interacting with developers over the past year to expand the native applications for its line of BlackBerry devices, and to provide to them the necessary tools to create high quality apps. Still, will there be enough interest in BB10?

In the long-run the user base dictates whether or not a company will invest in making apps for a device. RIM may see an increase in independent developers, but what about larger development firms that have multiple apps? Will they see enough financial interest to move or keep developing for BlackBerry devices?

The good news is that events like BB JAM, will help RIM with developer relations and interest. RIM's upcoming BlackBerry World 2012 is coming up soon and it will be interesting to hear what some of the keynote speakers have to say about the current state of BlackBerry. This is going to be a pivotal year for RIM and its user base, and one can only hope that they will remain faithful to BlackBerry.

As I've said before, I like Twitter and I'm on it a lot. On BlackBerry, we have some pretty great Twitter clients to choose from (I still believe Twitter for BlackBerry is the best) and a new one has just burst onto the scene.

Kijamii, by The Jared Company, is possibly the simplest, cleanest Twitter app I've ever seen. Some have said it's a little too simple or boring and while I can't exactly disagree, I do believe this app has great potential for a target audience that simply wants a basic Twitter app.

Kijamii may have a simple look but it does have every main function of Twitter (including one that a lot of us on Twitter for BlackBerry would love to have), the ability to see which of your tweets has been retweeted. I personally enjoyed my time using Kijamii thanks to the simpleness of it, lack of ads, and overall fast response

Cons: Lack of push made mentions come in very late (same as my biggest complaint with SocialScope). Also, Since there are a lot of options to choose from, and no tabs, it does take longer than I would personally like to go between Mentions/Tweets/Timeline/My Profile.
