Holiday season is in full swing and that means BlackBerry smartphones are dropping in prices. If you're anything like me, this is a glorious time of the year. Bless my dear daddy, who jokingly walks over to me while I'm setting the table for Thanksgiving lunch to ask me how much AT&T sells the Bold 9900 for. Curious, I answer him and question his motives. He then proceeded to tell me that Costco has the AT&T Bold 9900 for $49.99! And even more than that, other carriers are having tremendous deals on top of that. I could not believe my eyes. I was a little confused by the website setup at first, thinking that I would have to get a new line in order to partake in this deal but luckily I snooped around a little more with my dad's help and realized that I could in fact get the Bold 9900 for $49.99.

    • AT&T:
      • White/Gray Torch 9810 - $0.01
      • Black Bold 9900 - $49.99

    • T-Mobile:
      • Black Bold 9900 - $149.99
      • Black Curve 9360 - $49.99

    • Verizon:
      • Black Bold 9930 - $89.99
      • Fuchsia Curve 9330 - $0.01

Sure, it's not a white Bold 9900, but a deal this great is pretty hard to pass up when I'm this obsessed with new electronics and their holiday deals. One other thing is that you can only receive this discount if you order online. This worked out well for my parents, who wanted to give me the 9900 for a holiday and/or birthday gift, so instead of waking my daddy up at the break of dawn to go wait in line for it so I could have it tomorrow, it's going to be shipped to his house and I'll have to wait until a later date to finally un-box my own BlackBerry Bold 9900. I'm willing to wait for now because this is just so amazing.

Just in time for the holiday season, Rogers now has the white BlackBerry Bold 9900. The price remains the same, $169.99 with select 3 yr plans, and $599.99 flat out. Other carriers like T-Mobile have already confirmed they will also be carrying the white 9900. Do you plan on purchasing a white 9900?

Black Friday brings a myriad of shoppers together at unholy hours with one simple goal in mind: Get the best deals possible on otherwise expensive items. Best Buy is known as one of those places that gets overcrowded with people trying to save on the latest electronics. This year, Best Buy will have some great deals as well which includes our very own BlackBerry Torch 9810 for AT&T for a $1 on a two year contract. We know Best Buy is already given the PlayBook away pretty much at some ridiculously low prices, so it's nice to see a BlackBerry smartphone join the discount party.

And the white BlackBerry Bold 9900 is in the USA officially. T-Mobile USA will be launching the white Bold 9900 for $299 on a two-year contract. No word yet on when it will be available exactly but we know it's definitely coming. It's interesting to note that it seems T-Mobile feels they can get away with charging more for their own BlackBerrys. The fact that they're selling the Bold 9900 for $299 (compared to $199 on other carriers) and the Torch 2 9810 for $249 (compared to $50 on AT&T) definitely raises some questions. Either way for those of you that have been waiting for a white BlackBerry Bold (hint: robyntheginger), your wish might be coming true sooner rather than later. Come on AT&T, it's your turn to announce the white BlackBerry Bold 9900!

Alas! BlackBerry has officially put the dramatically reduced prices of all three BlackBerry PlayBooks on their website. Skeptics, eat your heart out. I was rummaging around the Internet, looking at my favorite websites when my gaze briefly skimmed over the picture of a PlayBook with a little orange banner across the corner saying "Starting at $199". I could barely believe my eyes! I wondered how long this would take to show up on their website. I had previously written about stores dropping the prices, but it didn't seem to be very consistent based on the reports given back to the BBOS team. Finally though, there is proof of the reduced prices.

The security gurus over at RIM continue to do what they do best, and make sure that every device released by the company is as secure as it can be. Today RIM has announced that its newly released OS 7 devices have reached EAL4+ certification. In short the EAL stands for Evaluation Assurance Level, and is used to grade IT products or systems to make sure that they meet industry security standards.

Here is the official statement from RIM:

Waterloo, ON - Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ:RIMM)(TSX:RIM) today announced that BlackBerry® smartphones running on the BlackBerry® 7 Operating System (OS) have been independently evaluated by a third-party Common Criteria evaluation facility and meet the security criteria for evaluation assurance level (EAL) 4+.

The Common Criteria is an international standard for validating that products meet specific security requirements. Widely respected for its extensive and comprehensive evaluation by an independent third party, EAL4+ accreditation examines a product’s design, software development methodology, and security mechanisms. EAL4+ is the highest level of accreditation under the Common Criteria Recognition Arrangement (CCRA) by 26 countries.

“Security is one of the most important considerations for enterprise customers and we are proud that BlackBerry 7 OS has earned this rigorous certification,” said Scott Totzke, Senior Vice President, BlackBerry Security at RIM. “RIM is renowned as a market leader in the delivery of secure mobile solutions, and this achievement helps to provide our customers globally with continued confidence in deploying BlackBerry solutions throughout their organizations.”

As a market leader in the area of information assurance and compliance, RIM is committed to independent, third party security testing and certifications of BlackBerry products. RIM is active in the Cryptographic Module Validation Program in North America, United Kingdom CESG Assisted Product Service (CAPS) and International Common Criteria evaluation scheme. BlackBerry® Enterprise Server has been previously awarded EAL4+ certification and the BlackBerry Enterprise Solution has also been previously approved for storing and transmitting sensitive data by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) as well as government organizations in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Austria, Australia and New Zealand.

Being late to the party isn't always a bad thing.

If you live in Quebec, you'll be happy to know that Videotron has finally released the BlackBerry Bold 9900 earlier this month. This is a great alternative to the big three here in Canada, & with a price tag of $189.95 on contract or $599.95 outright you really can't go wrong.

Will you be getting this device?

When BlackBerry 6.1 was first mentioned almost a year ago, the original build had mobile hotspot as an included feature. With the updated name/branding change to BlackBerry 7, we were left without the feature being added.

Several sources recently have posted information of a BlackBerry Torch 9810 running OS 7.1, which seems to now have mobile hotspot as an included feature.

The amazing folks from bjxiaoc have generously posted a video of mobile hotspot in action on a 9810.

The Bold 9790 code-name "Bellagio", has been making quite a few camera appearances over the past few weeks. It seems as though there are quite a few people excited about its release. This is understandable as the Bold series have been RIM's "Bread and Butter" since the days of the 9000 back in 2008.
