Looks like the first BB 10 device series are beginning to see the early stages of the release procedures at RIM. A leaked internal document from RIM claims to have some information regarding two new BlackBerry 10 devices. What is being deemed the L-series and N-series may reference the previously internal code names BlackBerry London and the BlackBerry Nevada.

Similar to the BlackBerry 10 Alpha device the BlackBerry 10 L-series is said to have an impressive 365 PPI, 768×1280 screen resolution. That offers quite a refreshing display compared to previous BlackBerry smartphones. Here are some of the leaked screen specifications of the BlackBerry 10 L-series:

    • 768×1280 screen resolution
    • 55mm wide
    • 356 PPI

In addition to the BlackBerry 10 L-series, some information regarding the N-series has also leaked. The N-series is said to be RIM's first BlackBerry 10 device with a physical QWERTY keyboard. Its shape is eerily similar to some current BlackBerry models that we already know. Although looks may be secondary to some when comparing it to device functionality. The leaked specifications regarding the BlackBerry N-series are as follows:

    • 720×720 screen resolution
    • 52 – 53mm wide
    • 330 PPI

You can see the obvious difference in the screen size, but still very nice quality. This is exciting news as we eagerly await the launch of BB 10. Although this information is leaked it still sounds very promising.

Once again RIM has given us a sneak peek into its innovative BlackBerry 10 OS. The BlackBerry 10 platform has slowly been making more appearances due to RIM's BlackBerry 10 Jam world tour. Although RIM has been keeping the lid on most of the features that make up BB 10 we have been given enough of a taste to know that RIM is on to something very good here.

The BlackBerry 10 Jam world tour made its way to New York; and our Senior Editor AgentBlackBerry had the chance to sit down with RIM's principal architect, Gary Klassen to get a hands-on look at some of the features that BlackBerry 10 has to offer.

Everyone knows that RIM likes to provide options when it comes to smartphones. Just take a look at the list of Blackberry Devices currently available. That is a grand total of 23 smartphones! And that is excluding all the devices running OS older than 5.0. With a variety of screen resolutions and aspect ratios, you can see why it was such a headache for the average developer to make BB applications. But that is in the past. BlackBerry demonstrated at this year's BlackBerry World Conference that they are "laser focused" on getting BB10 out on time and not only that, but doing it well. We have already seen a preview of what is to come and every day that passes we are getting one step closer to getting BB10 finally in our hands.

A few weeks ago, I came across a blog post from an Android developer who offers an app called "Open Signal Maps." There, they share their views on what fragmentation means to the Android community. They also provide insightful information about the model of the phone, the operating system, and also the screen resolution of the devices that downloaded their app. Although this report is most certainly outdated by now, it still give us plenty to think about.

For starters, let's leave BB7 and older devices in the past. Moving forward, we know that the PlayBook already has the basics of what will ultimately become BlackBerry 10. Other than this, the only other device capable of running BB10 is the Developer Alpha device being distributed at the various BlackBerry Jam Tour locations over the course of this summer.

It can be argued that this already created a bit of fragmentation for BB10 since the DevAlpha has a resolution of 1280x768 in comparison to the 1024x600 screen of the PlayBook. Pixel density is important but let's just note that the difference in pixels is very minimal and could easily be adjusted by a seasoned dev. What is more exciting is that QNX with Cascades is so powerful, a developer can provide "screen profiles" to render GUI elements on the screen dynamically depending on what the detected output is. At the "native track" of the Santa Clara BB10 Jam, it was mentioned that BB10 could essentially detect it was connected to an HDMI 1080p monitor or screen and build a GUI for that resolution if the developer takes the time to add that display profile. Remember the "stereoscopic display" demo back at BlackBerry Mobile World Congress 11? Cascades now makes it possible for any developer to create dynamic display settings for different outputs with minimal effort. It was also hinted that there will be other devices with different aspect ratios and that Developers should take advantage of Cascade's versatility for building elegant and functional GUI's that add to the BlackBerry Flow experience.

So, will there be fragmentation in BB10? You can bet there will be, but rest assured, it will not be as horrendous and as widespread as it is on Android.

For those who aren't aware yet, RIM is in the works with dev company, Mippin, to create a BlackBerry App Generator interface that will allow those with no application experience to compile a working BlackBerry app for PlayBook and Smartphones. David Mannl, CTO of Mippin, discusses the BlackBerry 10 platform with Patrick Mollins, Developer Evangelist for BlackBerry. Manni also shows off their Generated app already loaded onto the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha device.

As of now, you can request an invite into the BlackBerry App Generator program, but no open Beta testing as of yet. Looks like though, it may not be far off from public use. We'll keep you posted.

RIM has just released a video that goes into how BlackBerry can help Governments, whether big or small, with optimizing by making them more efficient as a functioning body. Everything from Construction crews for fixing and logging jobs, to Law Enforcement in looking up criminal databases via their BlackBerry Smartphone or Tablet. The goal is to use fewer resources, and at the same time increase productivity, so that the taxpayer (you and I) don't have to give our left "you know what" as our next payment to the Government. Perhaps a vote is in for RIM to be our next President?

In my eyes, the BlackBerry Music Gateway is one of those must have accessories for anyone who is a music lover. Having been able to spend a couple days now with the accessory, I'm ready to give my thoughts. The devices that I used to pair and stream audio with the Music Gateway are a Bold 9900 (NFC capable) and a Torch 9850. I also recorded a video of me demonstrating how to use the Music Gateway with and without the NFC feature (see below).
