Earlier OS 7.1.0.163 for the Torch 9850 was released. Now its time for its friend the Bold 9930 to get a fresh OS upgrade. Sprint is leading the way with OS 7.1, it will be interesting to see what other service providers follow. So if you have a Bold 9930 get out that USB cord and give it a fresh new OS. The Indonesian telecommunication regulation body (BRTI) has threatened to block BlackBerry data services in Indonesia. The block is a response to the heavy traffic that the country's service providers have experienced and RIM's inability to provide adequate data centers to lighten the load. The service block would include BBM and BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service), essentially forcing the BlackBerry device to operate as a generic cell phone. BRTI member Heru Sutadi told The Jakarta Post on Friday that, “Because RIM has not been cooperative, it is possible that we will soon end BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) and BBM service. BlackBerry therefore, would just be like other cellular phones,”.

Official OS 7.0.0.585 has reached the BlackBerry Bold 9900, Torch 9810, and 9860 from Vondafone DE. We recently saw the leaked OS 7.0.0.585 come out for the 9900 a few days ago so it makes sense that we were due an official release. We figured the whole Carrier IQ business would eventually make every major mobile manufacturer and carrier come out and state their stance on the software. Research In Motion has released a statement making it known they do not install Carrier IQ or allow their carrier partners to do so. Through their unofficial news site T-MoNews.com, it has been made known that T-Mobile in fact does install Carrier IQ on certain smartphones. As far as BlackBerry users are concerned, they have it installed in all 3 main OS 7 devices carried by T-Mobile.

According to T-Mobile, while they do install Carrier IQ onto these devices, they claim not to use it to keep track of personal data of its users but instead to improve their experience. Issues like dropped calls, battery performance, and application issues can all be monitored through the use of Carrier IQ.

T-Mobile is able to install this software through the "My Account" app that's pre-loaded onto all its phones. Once a user clicks on the app and accepts the terms and conditions, Carrier IQ begins to have access to the information state previously. If a user never clicks on the My Account app or doesn't agree to the terms and conditions in the app, then Carrier IQ simply will not be enabled on their device.

A lot of questions still remain as we get more and more information about how Carrier IQ is present in each device from every carrier that enables it. One thing to think about though, if it really goes against RIM's carrier-partnership policy to have Carrier IQ installed in a BlackBerry smartphone, how will they react to this news?
