So it looks like the Kik Messenger app that is designed for OS6 is fully functional on OS7 devices as well. The only catch is that the graphics/font are a bit small due to the higher resolution of the OS7 devices. But if that doesn't bother you, this is good news to get us through till Kik officially releases their OS7 update. Be sure to let us know if it works for you.

Note: You must be logged in to download.

If you're like many who own a BlackBerry OS 7 device, you've been slightly disappointed at the lack of compatible apps for your device.

One of the many apps I've personally felt lost without is the Ebay app. It was my go-to app for keeping up-to-date real-time on items I was bidding on.

We've heard from a few sources that an updated Ebay app with OS 7 support will be launching before the end of the month. We are hearing that this updated version will bring the ability to also sell from directly within the app.

Today UberSocial has been updated to version 1.251. Version 1.251 includes the following changes:

    • Direct support for the latest OS 7 BlackBerry devices
    • For BlackBerry OS 6.0 and 7.0 devices we now support the home screen message notification bar so DMs, @replies/mentions and inner circle tweets will show up there for quick access from the device home screen. When you see the mini UberSocial icon, click the bar and the tweets/DMs that caused the notification will be displayed along with a snippet of the tweet. Clicking the tweet snippet will take you directly to it.
    • Fixed bug where tweets would not open on some touch screen devices when you touched them
    • Fixed bug where trending topics descriptions would sometimes overlap in the list.
    • Fixed issue caused by twitter wrapping all URLs with t.co shortened links, this affected twitlonger, tmi.me, myloc.me and mypict.me links
    • List timelines now include retweets
    • Fixed bug where mini-icon would sometimes have a zero next to it
    • Improved load times for the inner circle timeline
    • Mypict.me now respects the picture size that you choose.
    • Profile pictures are now rotated correctly
    • Added 'Login via Browser' as an option when adding more then one account
    • Added multiple retries to the authorization process as the twitter servers appear to timeout or return nothing quite often
    • Added a 'Theme' menu itme so you can easily change themes from the home timeline without going into options
    • Changed the menu text of 'My Timeline' to 'My Tweets' to more accurately reflect the functionality
    • Support for new device screen sizes for installable themes
    • Fixed a theme bug where backgrounds were not being used on all screens, causing tiling of the portrait background
    • Greatly improved timeline scrolling performance on touch screen devices

Most of the changes listed are the same as the previous release. The important point to note is the "Greatly improved timeline scrolling performance on touch screen devices" UberSocial is popular twitter app that allows for an enriched tweeting experience. BlackBerry Bridge received another incremental update to v1.0.6.5 today. No changelog yet, but typically a Bridge update means a PlayBook OS update is coming soon.

We do know that PlayBook OS v2.0 isn't coming out till October, so this will probably be a minor Playbook OS update, if any.

The BlackBerry PlayBook seems to be conquering every area within enterprise computing. Today RIM has introduced the availability of the Citrix receiver for the BlackBerry PlayBook.

The Citrix reliever allows users to access applications and desktops hosted by their company's Citrix server. Now applications like Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Word will be able to run directly from the PlayBook. If available, users can also access their Citrix desktop with a couple of simple touches. You could look at the Citrix receiver as an extension of your desktop at work.

    Some Key features include:

    • Multitasking – similar to the PlayBook’s multi-tab browsing experience, the Citrix Receiver allows for multitasking between virtualized apps and desktops, and between multiple desktops themselves – all on the tablet’s seven-inch screen
    • Single “Sign On” Access – one single sign on access point provides full access to virtual apps and desktops
    • IT Controlled Built-in Enterprise App Hosting – IT managers can give self-service access to enterprise apps, much like you select apps from BlackBerry App World
    • Security – the unique FIPS-certified BlackBerry PlayBook tablet security protocols protect your data when using the Citrix Receiver
    • Peripheral Integration in High Definition – by pairing a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, you’ll gain full access to your remote desktop and apps on the PlayBook’s brilliant HD screen

This is a really big step in a positive direction for RIM's PlayBook as it now opens the doors to communicate with one of the most effective application hosting systems in the market today.
