Research In Motion is trying. They are trying very hard to get developers on board as part of the uphill climb towards BlackBerry 10 and apparently the success is slowly starting to show. RIM has shared with us some of these statistics from Q4 2011 to share with our readers which will show the progressive improvement that's happening.
There has been a clear commitment from BlackBerry to developers, with tools focused on usability and ease of development; increased involvement and contribution to open source; reinvigorated community event involvement over the last six months; new energy and leadership in Alec Saunders and Martyn Mallick; as well as the unprecedented seeding of a non-commercial testing device - the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha device - at BlackBerry 10 Jam in Orlando this May.

If you've found the time over the last few days to open up BlackBerry App World, you may have noticed that there is a new banner that announces Happy Birthday to RIM's native app storefront. On April 1, 2009 during CTIA's annual trade show, was when App World first launched.

Over the last 36 months, we've seen App World grow from an initial 1,000 apps to now over 70,000 apps! Not only have we seen the app selection grow, but we've also seen App World become available in several new countries & even introduce carrier billing.

I was surprise to see that RIM wasn't promoting this milestone more heavily, especially with all the positive/negative press that we've seen since the fiscal results last week.

When asked via Twitter, Alex Kinsella, Senior Public Relations and Social Media Manager at Research In Motion said:

    Everyone's heads down on BB10 - we'll celebrate then.
If everyone is working so hard on BB10, will we possibly see App World v4.0 with these devices?

Just ahead of today's earnings call, the BlackBerry Beta Zone has released a new update to the Twitter for BlackBerry app. The new v3.0.0.19 brings one main bug fix to the table: "Stuck on loading when you first enter the app and scroll directly to the bottom." Apparently this version may get the gold treatment soon and be released to the public.

The BlackBerry Bridge has received a tiny, microscopic update today in App World from v2.0.0.25 to .26. Make sure you download it and be patient as the update makes it way to all devices. The update brings bug fixes and it could be fixing the Bridge conflict that inPulse Watch reported a couple of days ago. There's no change log attached to this update so it's all speculation at this point.

PlayDoom for PlayBook has been updated to v1.0.9. Users will find this update satisfying as it fixes control issues that were creating erratic behavior. I've tried it out for a bit and so far things are running overall a bit smoother.

    The full changelog is:

    - A major control issue eliminated, no more erratic behaviour while looking around. In the next updates I plan to solve the remaining issues and I'm also working on a completely new control method.
    - Improvements to the help menu, it should be more useful in explaining the controls.

I saw The Hunger Games on opening night (Friday) and it was awesome. I hadn't read the books at all but I decided to check out the movie anyways because it looked interesting. This was the first time though, that a movie was so good that it made me want to read the following books in order to see what happens next. Now, I know many people use devices to read books but I just never got into it. Whether it's a Kindle or a PlayBook, I never really thought I'd like it.

Well last night, I saw a little tip on Twitter about getting all three Hunger Games series books for $1.53/each when using Kobo Books and decided to try it to see if it worked. It did and now I have all three books on my PlayBook. Upon check out, simply enter the code hungergamesdeal3 (for the first book, "The Hunger Games"), hungergamesdeal4 (for the second book, "Catching Fire"), and hungergamesdeal5 (for the third book, "Mocking Jay"). So if you want the books, make sure you get them as soon as possible as this deal is only available till March 31st.

Here is a nifty little app that just hit the App World market. It's called SRS File Multi Send Plugin for BBM, which allows the user to send files to multiple BBM contacts at the same time, freeing you from having to send a file to each contact one by one. Why this hasn't been fully implemented into BBM yet, I don't get. But you can bet that this little app has the BBM RIM devs heads turning.

With this app there are a couple options to send a file for multiple BBM contacts:

1- Select the file you want to send,
2- Choose BBM contacts and send, simple as this.

    OR

    1-Take a photo,
    2-Choose BBM contacts and send.

You can use the trial version as long as you want, but you can only select 2 contacts for each file at a time. The paid full version offers no trial restrictions in addition to being ad free. The paid version also come with 1 free year of support and upgrades. However, by then I imagine this feature will be built into the BBM platform.
