The makers of the EmergencyLink app have contacted us to let us know about their new very handy little app. In a nutshell, EmergencyLink is a service that allows you to store your emergency information and share it with friends and family, and it also provides real 24-hour support. Think of a scenario where you get into an accident and don't have proper identification or that ability to relay information about yourself or your emergency contacts. That's where EmergencyLink solves the problem. And best of all, this app is free to download in App World!

As a lover of music and mixing songs, I've been looking for a good DJing app on the PlayBook for quite some time. The latest app to show its prowess in App World is DJStudio. This Android ported app runs fairly well on the PlayBook and the fact that it's free makes it look even better.

In all fairness, it doesn't have the sexiest UI and has a lot of room for improvement but it definitely does what you download it for. Mixing on it is a breeze and the beat matching features works spot on.

I hope the developers of the app, Beatronik, make a couple of main UI changes, in order to make the console controls, beat bar, and other parts bigger/easier to click. Once those changes take effect, this could be the best DJing app on the PlayBook. Until then though, DJPad will still be #1 in my book.

About a week ago we reported that today, Tues the 24th, BlackBerry Beta Zone website was going to get a much needed redesign and it's finally happened! The overall redesign UI is more "blog-like" to give the site a overall easy navigational feel.

The forums are also going to get a makeover so members can keep track of their latest posts, ect. The mobile interface will be much improved and easier to navigate, and a new 2 click feature will be implemented so it takes only 2 clicks to start new beta downloads.

I for one am really exited for this redesign, and for sure we will see a much needed spike in the beta testing community to get active in making these native RIM apps how we'd like them.

Are you a Beta Zone member/tester? Let us know what you think of this redesign in the comments! If not, get signed up today!

We've seen the conference guide app for BlackBerry World, now the same developers, The Active Network, have released a separate conference guide app for BlackBerry 10 Jam attendees! The BlackBerry 10 Jam Mobile Conference Guide is an easy way to look up the full breakout session catalog and read up on speakers and conference sponsors. As the event approaches, you will also be able to create your conference schedule and you won’t miss a beat with the apps Event Messages and social channels - all right from your BlackBerry device. This app will be your onsite tool to fill out surveys, view conference maps, and even connect with other people attending the conference. The app will automatically update when there are schedule changes, and synchronize with your conference calendar in the My Scheduler tool on your desktop.

Note: Access to some advanced features, such as session scheduling and event messages, are restricted to registered attendees of the BlackBerry 10 Jam conference only.

I was pleasantly surprised today when our good buddy Alex Kinsella tweeted about a new musical app making its debut in App World. MorphWiz-Play brings the best of synthesizers to our tablets and utilizes the native accelerometer to make them rock even more.

Check out what they had to say about their app:
MorphWiz, the brain child of Dream Theater keyboardist, Jordan Rudess, and award-winning developer, Kevin Chartier, took the music app business by storm, winning Billboard’s Best Music Creation App, the Best App Ever award for Best Music App, and an Electronic Musician Editor’s choice award. Jordan uses MorphWiz on stage and in the studio with his prog-metal band, Dream Theater. MorphWiz-Play takes the deep synthesis and immersive visuals of MorphWiz and packages it into 30 custom presets programmed personally by the Wizard himself, Jordan Rudess.
I just purchased the app and after messing around with it for about 10 minutes I have to say I love it. I can't wait to mess with it more and be able to fully exploit its potential.

One of my top 3 all-time favorite apps on my BlackBerry, BeBuzz, is currently on sale courtesy of Bellshare. In case you're unfamiliar with BeBuzz, let's go over a couple of the things that makes this app great.

At the beginning, BeBuzz simply controlled the color of the LED on our BlackBerrys. Progressively they've added more. From the length of the LED flash, to toasts and custom LED colors, BeBuzz simply does it all. For some the price may be a little too steep, but if you're ever going to spend $4 on an app, then this is the right app to do it on.

Check out more features of BeBuzz:
    - Choose from 20 predefined solid LED and 12 rapid flashing DISCO LED COLORS
    - Assign colors for E-Mails, SMS, BBM and Calls from your FAVORITE CONTACTS
    - This FULL version gives you UNLIMITED CONTACTS
    - Assign colors for BlackBerry Messenger, Facebook, Twitter, Missed Calls, Calendar, Tasks, Battery and many 3rd party apps (see list below)
    - Create an unlimited number of CUSTOM LED COLORS and DISCOS
    - STACK 2 LED COLORS for even more color variations
    - Repeating Notifiers: Keep your phone's audible notifiers repeating until you acknowledge them
    - On-Screen Popup Notifiers: Unobtrusive on-screen messages ("toasts") for messages and events
    - Text-to-Speech: BeBuzz will read your messages out aloud, fully customizable (free until Mar 31st, 2012)
    - Vibrate-While-Ringing: Have vibrate while ringing for notifiers and incoming calls.
    - Vibrate/sound on call connect/disconnect
    - Fully customizable and doesn't drain your battery!

This is a sad announcement to everyone. As stated by Google, they are going to discontinue their support for Google Sync for BlackBerry app starting June 1, 2012. This is said to be part of their "Spring-cleaning stuff" which I must say is out of season and also not the first time they have stopped supporting the BlackBerry OS. Last year they ended their support for Gmail app.

In August 2011, I sold my BlackBerry smartphone to my Mother for $80 and moved over to Android. I purchased a HTC Desire S for around $400-500. Don’t get me wrong, it was hard moving to Android from BlackBerry. I’d be losing BlackBerry Messenger, Push email and of course, my beloved keyboard. Now, in April 2012, I’m still using my HTC, and though I’ve enjoyed my time installing ROMs, overclocking and doing various other warranty destroying activities, I think it’s time to move on, and get back to my old BlackBerry ways.

On April 19th 2011, I purchased a BlackBerry PlayBook. I watched it develop, from OS 1.0 through to OS 2.0. I witnessed the increase in apps, which is a subject with much controversy. I believe the increase in quality and quantity was dramatic, and that the range of apps now available is great. This said, I still think there’s room for improvement within app world, by certain developers (Cough, Netflix and Skype).
