Earlier today, a pretty laughable "survey" came out and spread through the web about how RIM is quickly losing developer interest. In a great post on the BlackBerry Developer Blog, Alec Saunders, VP of Developer Relations at RIM, addresses the report directly.
Just yesterday, Blaq for BlackBerry PlayBook, was updated to v1.8.2, bringing us some cool new features and functionality. Proving that the app has great developer support, we get yet another update that adds some new features and bug fixes! New Features:
The popular Twitter client from Kisai Labs, Blaq for BlackBerry PlayBook, has been updated to v1.8.2. So far one thing I noticed about this update is that you can now swipe down the menu and easily change between multiple accounts. This is especially handy for me as I'm always changing between the @BlackBerryOS account and my personal
These last few weeks has be filled with sad news. Last week, Calgary,AB-based Poynt filled for bankruptcy. It's sad to see them in this situation, as they are one of the very few Canadian software companies to see international success.
Let's hope this doesn't put a damper on their already existing BlackBerry 10 app they demonstrated at BB10Jam in Orlando.
S4BB Limited has released a brand new series of magazine applications for BlackBerry PlayBook. The series consists of 24 different magazines, varying from sports to animals, psychology or food & cooking. Each magazine will provide you with the latest news and developments on your favorite topic.
One of the most anticipated forthcoming about BlackBerry 10 is what the native apps are going to look like, and how they will function. We know that TAT (The Astonishing Tribe) have been put in charge of coming up with great user experience and UIs for the native BlackBerry 10 apps. Today, assuming the slides are legit, we have a sneekpeek at the Facebook app on the BlackBerry 10 device!
One of my favorite apps on BlackBerry, BlackBerry Protect, has been updated today. The new version brings with it a slew of updates and new features. This is a must have app so if you haven't downloaded it already, make sure you do so now.
Today during RIM's Annual General Meeting of Shareholder's Thorsten's Heins confirmed that BBM on BlackBerry 10 will include a video chat feature. While we were hardly surprised at announcement seeing as the currently BlackBerry PlayBook has a Video Chat featured installed and the
This cool little game has been out for a couple of weeks now but I just came across it yesterday and I have to say, it's pretty awesome. SolverLabs has made, in essence, a clone of the famous iOS app Tiny Wings and brought it to BlackBerry smartphones and the PlayBook.
Tiny Bird has the user take control of a tiny bird as he (or she, not really sure) makes his way through hills collecting stars and precious gems. The secret is to create enough momentum as Tiny Bird slides on the hills (by pressing the screen when going downhill and releasing at the correct time at the bottom of the hill) before the storm catches up to you.
For some time now we have heard about the BlackBerry App Generator - a self making app interface that allows you to create your own app without the knowledge or skill of developing. I was lucky enough to get a invite to the program in it's beta stages. The first thing I came up with is a app for none other than BlackBerryOS.com! I can't say much about how it works as the program is currently in private beta, however, I literally put this app together in under 5 minutes. What the app generator does is collect your RSS feeds and compiles them into a handy little interface equipped with sexy graphics and animations. All you have to do is put in the images, choose the colors, and input the links. As simple as that. And it looks sexy too. Albeit, not the most in depth app, but it does work as a news/blog app very well. We are still in the beta stages of the App Generator program, so I imagine it will continue to add more features and improvements in the near future. Learn more about the BlackBerry App Generator and request an invite.
Don't wait around any longer. Head to App World and download the Free BBOS Mobile App! Available for the PlayBook and Smartphones running OS 5 and higher.
While Alec Saunders isn't making up parody songs for BlackBerry 10, he loves to do some myth busting on app development for BlackBerry. One of these myths is that there aren't hardly any apps for BlackBerry. This is just not true. Via the BlackBerryDev Blog, Victoria Berry shares with us a few major stats regarding apps, including a major 3 billions apps downloaded milestone!
Three billion app downloads averages out to over 2.5 million downloads each day. What’s even more important – and impressive – is that the number of daily downloads continues to increase. It took 786 days to reach the one billion mark, 210 days to reach two billion, and only 176 days to reach the three billion number. I should also note that this number does not include apps downloaded from third party BlackBerry app stores, or those pushed internally at companies around the world, or those downloaded directly from the web.
Special thanks is due to the over 28,000 BlackBerry App World vendors and the BlackBerry App World storefront team. BlackBerry App World has continued to grow steadily with more than 90,000 applications now up for sale (we know other platforms use other metrics like submitted, or approved, but we prefer the more tangible “up for sale”).
Congrats to BlackBerry for this great milestone! Let us know what your favorite BlackBerry apps are in the comments.

It's that time of the year again for US Patriots to break out the fireworks and barbeques to celebrate Independence Day USA! As a US citizen myself, I'd like to take a moment to mention all those before me who have contributed and served to make the USA the great nation it has become. I'll be spending my day with the family, and of course my BlackBerrys will be closely by my side.
If you are looking for some ways to use your BlackBerry to help you celebrate this year's Independence Day, maybe we can help:
