It's that time of the year again for US Patriots to break out the fireworks and barbeques to celebrate Independence Day USA! As a US citizen myself, I'd like to take a moment to mention all those before me who have contributed and served to make the USA the great nation it has become. I'll be spending my day with the family, and of course my BlackBerrys will be closely by my side.

If you are looking for some ways to use your BlackBerry to help you celebrate this year's Independence Day, maybe we can help:

    • Ideas to use your BlackBerry for a great 4th of July
    • EA Games 4th of July sale for BlackBerry

Calvin And Hobbes Comics For PlayBook

Calvin and Hobbes has got to be one of my favorite comics of all time. I remember the days when I would sit there laughing hysterically by myself as I read through each book (hey, I had friends too). So when I just discovered today that developers, Handster Inc, made a Calvin and Hobbes app for the BlackBerry PlayBook, I got ecstatic! Now I'll be able to go back and relive some of those laughs right from my tablet, and see the comics from a different perspective than I did when I was just a kid. Calvin and Hobbes comics can play a double meaning quite often. Anyhow, this is a free app that only comes with a small ad at the bottom of the page. No biggie. Enjoy!

Facade For PlayBook Brings Your Favorite Social Media Timelines Into One Place

One of my favorite parts of App World is the New Arrivals section. This is where I found this new app this evening and decided to give it a try.

Facade is a cool app that allows you to combine your Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and even Sina Weibo (Don't worry, I had to look this one up too) accounts into one easy to read timeline. You can post to all your accounts at once or select each account individually instead.

This is an Android app that's been ported over to the PlayBook, but it has worked extremely well for me so far.

It can be a little confusing in terms of the different timelines when you first start. Once you sign into all your accounts, the feeds just don't show up until you go into the settings (swipe down from the top bezel) and adjust how frequently you want to be updated. After that, hitting the "reload" button at the button will show the combined timelines in the app.

The cool thing is, once that's done, you can pretty much just refresh the timeline whenever you see fit or wait till it updates automatically based on your predetermined intervals.

One more thing, Facade for the PlayBook is free. What do I like more than cool apps? Cool apps that are free and this one definitely fits in this category.

Last week, we showed you some early mockups of potential BlackBerry 10 App World interfaces from Research In Motion and we had some suggestions within our forums as to what features some users were interested in for BlackBerry App World. Since the BlackBerry PlayBook was release in April 2011, we have seen several different versions of BlackBerry App World. As a user and a developer for the BlackBerry platform, here are a few features that I feel are ‘must-haves’ which would significantly improve the user experience within BlackBerry App World.

With the 4th of July coming up in less than a week, a lot of you may be wondering what to do this year to celebrate Independence Day? In a day and age of smartphones being involved in everything we do, they can play a key part in ensuring that you have a great 4th of July this year! Whether hosting or attending a backyard barbecue bash, having a relaxing picnic at the park, or hitting the road on one of the busiest travel days of the year, here are some ways your BlackBerry can keep you organized, entertained and in control.

    Planning your Getaway -

The Fourth of July is one of the busiest travel times of the year. It’s important to plan ahead, but it’s equally important to be ready to adjust on the fly so you can avoid the unexpected, sometimes nightmarish travel.

    • BlackBerry Travel lets you plan and manage your trips. This app puts all travel updates in one place. If there are any changes to train/plane/bus reservations, you’ll receive an immediate notification!
    • Want to avoid traffic as best as you can? BlackBerry Traffic, with hands-free turn-by-turn directions, gives you an ETA, as well as the most efficient travel routes based on current traffic conditions.

    Barbecue/Picnic Extravaganza -

Utilizing your smartphone can help you throw that unforgettable Fourth of July barbecue or picnic.

    • Instant messaging apps help you stay connected in real-time. With the new BBM, you can share calendar entries and invite your BBM contacts to your bash. Form a group chat to keep everyone in the loop on possible last minute changes.
    • What’s a backyard bash without music? Create a stellar playlist with input from the group using BBM Music, a social music sharing and discovery app. Smartphone accessories can also come in to play. The BlackBerry Music Gateway lets you wirelessly stream music to your stereo from any Bluetooth enabled smartphone or device. The BlackBerry Music Gateway turns your smartphone into a remote control. When paired, change tracks and adjust volume from your smartphone from up to 30 feet away. The BlackBerry Music Gateway also works with any Bluetooth enabled phone so everyone at the party or picnic can get involved
    • Of course, it’s not all about food! Get some drink ideas from Mobile Bartender, which includes hundreds of recipes to take advantage of, or DrinkMaster, which has a database of over 6,000 drinks.

Take Your 4th of July Viral -

Use your smartphone to capture and share thoughts, images and experiences real time.

    • Leave the bulky digital camera at home and capture all your fun moments using your smartphone camera. Snap pictures and take videos and share them instantly through Facebook, Twitter and more!

Finally, show off your national pride by outfitting your BlackBerry with a fun American flag skin! Let us know what you have planned to celebrate this year's Independence Day!
