This week for my first article in the App Tuesday series I'll be cutting my teeth on the Pandora application. Pandora is a free custom streaming radio application for your BlackBerry device.

Howdy hands, it's Monday again, and I'm on my way to Armpit, USA (New Jersey). I got me another load in Chocolate Town (Hershey, PA), so I'll be hualin Dispacther Brains (Empty trailer) when I pay the "Lemme outta Jersey" tax.

I gotta tell ya, all the bears (police) I see with customers (people pulled over by police) makes me wonder if anyone knows anything about Trapster, a handy app for BlackBerry, but also for Android and iPhone's too. Now, drivin a rig means I don't get the privilege of using a Bird dog (radar detector), it's against Federal law for me to even posses one in my truck. But that's why I have been using Trapster.

Hammerdown Monday is written by ADPerdue, a genuine Long Haul Trucker with eight years on the road, recently certified as having over one million accident and ticket free miles, and a bona fide BlackBerry junkie. Apps are rated from one gear to ten gears, with one meaning "don't use this app even if they pay ya", and ten meaning "if you don't have this app yet, you need some serious head shrinkin".

When I first heard about IM+, my first thought was “Oh great, another IM client”. Then I loaded it up on my Torch, and within a few hours, I deleted my longtime IM client, and haven’t looked back since. There was a learning curve, but what do you expect with an app that has more features than you're used to? However, the learning curve is a small one, it took just an hour or so to get familiar with all the features that Shape Services managed to fit into IM+.

Starting this week, every Wednesday I will be reviewing a new entertainment related app (think movies, food, music; etc). Many BlackBerry users are unaware that our platform has some incredibly solid apps so I feel this weekly column will take a deeper look into some of the most useful BlackBerry apps.

So let's get started! For my first review I will be showing off a personal favorite...

If you're like me and use multiple cell phones with differing operating systems, then you are probably wondering when the PlayBook will feature some of the apps that you've grown to love on your other systems ...I mean why can't I view my Kindle books on the gloriousness that is the PlayBook?! Tablets are built for this kind of application, but they are unfortunately lacking for download.

When questioned about the release of such apps for tablets, the companies become very hush, hush. If you want to know where your favorite app companies stand in regards to these releases, please check out the below link.

Douglas from Inside BlackBerry Blog goes over how adding Super Apps characteristics will extend the functionality and stickiness of a BlackBerry smartphone app. In the above video, Mike from Xtreme Labs shows how something as seemingly simple as a weather application can leverage Super Apps characteristics to become a valuable tool in your daily life. He also goes over the basic definition of what a Super App is in comparison to a regular app. Even better news, you can download AccuWeather for FREE in BlackBerry App World. Leave us a comment and let us know what you think of this highly integrated Super App!

Last week, BlackBerry Messenger v6.0.0.56 was leaked from an extracted OS 6.1 leaked build. Many individuals who initially tried to install it ran into bricked devices. Within 48 hours (thanks Poita316 & Firesail2010) we were able to create a step-by-step installation for our readers.

This new version of BBM brings tons of UI & tweaks that are much welcomed.

The ability to choose specific colors for each BBM contact is a feature that should have been included years ago! I find it much easier to differentiate between what I'm writing & what my contacts are typing back to me.

There is a slight lag within the application, but the overall use is smooth. Many are stating that they've had memory leaks or battery drain from this leak.

OS 6.1 icons abound & they bring a more friendly look to BBM.

If you wish to install this leaked version of BBM, please follow the instructions below carefully:

    1. Make sure you have a Stock BBM (5.0.1.49 seems to work well) *Do NOT delete*
    2. Install BlackBerry ID app (BlackBerry ID [OS6] - Downloads - BBH-Plus Forums)
    3. Install BBM 6.0.0.56 (http://bb-h.me/bbm60056)
    4. If prompted to overwrite, please say YES
Warning 1: This new BBM can only be installed on OS 6 devices. OS 5 is NOT compatible.
Warning 2: Although we have created a process that has been successful at installing BBM 6, the process is not guaranteed to work on your device. If you choose to install, BlackBerryOS is not accountable for any malfunction that may happen to your device.

Your co-worker's phone has died or was forgotten at home, & they ask you if they can make a quick call on your phone. You hesitate to offer him your phone because of the sensitive information that lies within Facebook.

Well, Risto Mobile Solutions has got you covered with bPRIVATE - Privacy App Blocker for BlackBerry. The premium version let's you password lock up to 6 applications (BBM, Inbox, Facebook, Address Book, Calendar, Memo & Media) so that prying eyes are left wondering what you've hidden, while the free version is limited to 1 application.

My only concern with this application is that blocks are delayed 2-3 seconds, & you can actually see what is within those applications for that brief instant. Other than that, this application is a must-have for anyone who feels that their sensitive information should be guarded.

Risto Mobile has hooked us up with 15 copies of this application to give away. Just leave a comment in the forums for a chance to win!!

Have you ever had your phone in your pocket & accidentally pocket-dialed someone? Had your phone accidentally open an app & drain your battery?

Well, the folks at Risto Mobile Solutions have come out with a solution to your issue called bLOC - Widgets Screen Lock for BlackBerry. This application not only provides a screen lock solution, but also gives you several different widgets to navigate through while screen is locked, including:
    • Weather
    • Clock
    • Calendar
    • Quote of the Day
    • Gold Prices
    • Currency Exchange

The user interface seems very easy to understand, but it seems the application does not automatically load after a battery pull.

When testing this application on my Bold 9780, I had to press the RETURN key in order to have the slider appear. A slight discomfort, but nothing that a typical user wouldn't get accustomed to.

I was still able to receive call while the application was running & it didn't seem to affect the memory while running.

Blaq is a twitter client for BlackBerry phones that is available in both paid, "Blaq", and free, "BlaqLite", forms. In my opinion there is really no substantial difference between the two, therefore the version I will be testing is BlaqLite.

Have you ever lost your car in a crowded parking lot? Have you ever been lost in an amusement park and can't remember how to get to your favorite ride? Have you ever needed turn-by-turn directions to any location? Take a closer look at QuickFind's technology:

From the makers of QuickLaunch, NikkiSoft has come out with a brand new GPS friendly app called QuickFind. QuickFind uses radar-like technology that displays both your current location and your target location. QuickFind will not only show you on it's radar display where your current position is, but it will also show you your target location. The app allows you to see the direction you are going in, speed of travel, and upon close proximity and arrival at your destination, QuickFind will employ a Vibrate/LED combination to alert you that you've arrived.

Cocky Culture, well known for their themes, have developed their first game for the BlackBerry 9800 and 95xx devices. The game requires you to help Dante escape through 9 levels of hell. The user guides Dante away from lava while progressing through various platforms. There are several obstacles to avoid as well as score enhancers including lives and power ups.

This is a great game, especially for Cocky Culture’s first attempt at game development. .
