Thread: Z10 with Virgin Media in the UK? Nope

Bhaa... very frustrating. After developing with a Z10 at work, I want to pick one up for personal use with my current provider, Virgin Media (because they've been good!). When I spoke to one of the sales women in the local shop, she gave me one of those glazed looks that thought I was speaking Urdu.

Dang it man! I certainly feel your pain! I'm with Sprint in the USA and felt the same pain with them not offering the Z10 (along with the delay in the Z10 even getting to the States!). My contract with them has been up for months, so I've been planning my exodus to another carrier and ripping them a "new one" across every BlackBerry site (including their own) and Twitter! What's happened with me over the past month though is a bit different: I have fallen in complete love with the Q10, which they WILL have. So for me, I've relaxed and gone into "Quietly patient hibernation mode".

So, what are going to do? Move to another carrier? Hope they will eventually carry it?

Maybe you just spoke with the wrong person. I'd call them up to see if you can get some official answers.

Well, I've learned yesterday that there might be a glimmer of hope. Becasue we released Word Soup on the Z10 in line with a developer incentive scheme RIM/BB set up around Christmas, I think we're due to receive a limited edition Z10 as a thank you. Assuming I can whip my sim out of my torch and it will be happy in the Z10 I'm all smiles.

Failing that Joe, yes indeed, a call with someone higher up the food chain will probably reap more satisfactory answers. And failing that, yes Harmeling, changing carrier will be my last resort. Shame, because Virgin have been excellent.

Hi FuzzyRob, can you not go sim free? I did years ago, then you are in control, and can swap sims and carriers
To suit you, also you do not have carrier software which they monitor and can charge for tethering etc,
Carriers are screwing customers, always get best deal or move, no loyalty
As for phone shop staff very few have a clue, a waste of time, do you speak. Urdu?.

I could go sim free, but the handsets are pretty expensive to buy outright.
The main reason I wanted to stay with Virgin is because they actually treat you pretty well! When my last contract ended, they offered me a new handset and reduced my package down to £16UKP/month. When the phone arrived I changed my mind and asked if I could change up to a 3G torch. They said sure, no problem, and waived the additional monthly cost, leaving me at the reduced £16UKP/month tarriff. Compared to what I know a lot of people are currenty paying (albeit for somewhat more glamorous handsets), I think I came out pretty well.

Hence why its disappointing they dont have the Z10's on the radar yet. My contracts up shortly and that would do nicely?

And no... don't speak Urdu. A little Swedish and enough German to get by, but the single-digit-IQ staff they have in stores barely can sign their own name, let alone tell me what handsets are coming up! Ho hum

I expect Virgin will offer it soon, most other networks are, and they will loose customers if they don't,
Hope you get your Z10 soon, do you have a playbook? It's underrated and the best 7“ tablet for the money, yes staff At phone shops have only one brain cell to share,

Yes Z10 was expensive but I Need to use local sims through Europe on business,

yeah we've had dev alpha Z10s knocking around the office since just before Christmas and theyre very spritely indeed. The dev alpha case is a right brick so Im looking forward to having a retail unit to see whattheyre like.
As for a playbook- well, when I feel the need, i take one home from work and borrow that (and that makes it EVEN cheaper! 8)

Had my Z10 two days after launch, and updated to latest firmware,
Battery lasts longer, and have no problems, its a great phone,
you will like Z10, very fast browser, and the hub brings all my
Messages Emails etc, a brilliant Idea and think its perfect design and weight,

With Virgin UK too, took the plunge and bought the Z10 sim free, traded in my Bold 9900 to bring the cost down. Looks like they might be bringing out the Q10 later in the year. My contract is up in September, might upgrade to that. As the Z10 and Q10 dont use BIS we might see a drop in monthly cost, or an increase in allowances!

For prepay plans that required the additional BIS package, prices have dropped. Otherwise, you never know what else they may try to tack on to make up for the price drop.

BigWhite. Sounds good- if our developer special edition doesnt come through for whatever reason, that sounds like my best bet!
