BBX has been one of the hottest topics within the BlackBerry community ever since it was officially announced back in October. Since then we have been constantly wondering what these new super phones would look like. The general consensus among BlackBerry aficionados seems to that the new devices will look similar to the BlackBerry Bold. This is all based upon the rumored BlackBerry Colt that is said to be the first QNX based device to come out.
It was not to long ago that we reported about some leaked
videos (we were forced to remove them by RIM) that surfaced from RIM that showed off some of what they depicted would be the future of mobile technology. Among the devices depicted in the video was a futuristic looking cell phone shown in the picture below. Could this be RIM's new BBX device? Now before you say no, lets think about this for a minute.
Most everything we know to date regarding BBX devices are pure speculation, but we have been given some hints by RIM. Here are some of the hints we have been given by RIM:
- will have the same screen resolution and aspect ratio as the BlackBerry PlayBook
We have maintained aspect ratios, BBX also has the ability to upload multiple dimension graphics … [and the standard resolutions] are the same as PlayBook," - Alec Saunders
- It will look similar to the PlayBook in features OS
When asked what the QNX-based phone OS would look like, RIM CEO Mike Lazaridis held up a PlayBook, and said, "like this." - interview with PC MAG
In addition I believe BBX phones will have door unlocking feature via NFC that's already in development and will be available early next year.
Based on this the pictures may not be as far fetched as initially thought. The device in the picture does look like a mini PlayBook. I think its possible BBX devices could look like that. Yes, there are many questions left unanswered, but it does make you wonder about the possibilities. What do you think the new BBX phone will look like?
