Thread: Trying to unlock my Storm 2, but this happens.

After I type in MEPD, then I have to type MEP2....nothing happens once I type MEP2, no box comes up where I have to type the 9 digit unlock code. I am trying to unlock the phone so I can put my ATT SIM card in it, so I can run it with ATT. Anyone know what I am suppose to do, or why this is happening? Thanks!

Maybe I need to put my SIM card in the phone while i am doing the unlock process?

I notice that when I watch the UnlockKings video on doing it, it shows his network as ACTIVE, on my phone it shows me network as being INACTIVE....is this causing the box to not show up after I type MEP2? If so, what am I to do to change the network to be ACTIVE?

Note: A SIM card is sometimes required to unlock the phone. The SIM card can be inactive. When you plan on using another carrier please make sure that you follow the instructions located in the first posting on this page.

1) Turn off the phone
2) Turn on the phone
3) Go to Settings, Click on Manage Connections, Select 'Turn All Connections Off'
4) Click the Back Arrow Button (Next to the Red End Call button) and select Advanced Options and then SIM Card
5) Hit the Settings Button (Button that has dots next to green call button) and select 'Show Keyboard'
6) Type in "mepd" (please note that you will not see what you type on the screen).

With some BlackBerry's you may have to type mepd in capital letters (MEPD).
A new menu should drop down. If your phone is locked you will see "Active" or "Enabled" beside "Network".

7) Type in "mep2" and another screen will pop-up prompting for the MEP (MEP2) code (Please note that you will NOT see what you type on the screen).

Note: On the right hand side of the prompt you will see "X left", where X is the number of tries you have left to enter the code.

NEVER let this number go below 4. Once you get to 0 your phone will be hard-locked.

Exception: If nothing is prompting please make sure you are selecting each button by press the screen in.

8) Enter the 8 or 16 digit unlock code and then press enter to confirm (only enter the unlock code once!!!!). You should get a "code accepted" message. Your phone is now unlocked!


9) Go to Settings, Click on Manage Connections, Select 'Turn All Connections On'

10) After the phone is unlocked, remove the battery while the phone is on, insert SIM as desired and re-insert the battery.

Please note:
If you plan on using your Blackberry with another carrier/network, please make sure your phone is compatible with the carrier/network you wish to transfer to. Please call the carrier or visit their website to find this information.

I had been trying all that reaper, apparently it was already unlocked, and I just had to go through and change the settings to GSM or ATT. Maybe you can answer my question, since this phone was Verizon carrier, but now I am using it for ATT, will ATT make me get blackberry data package? I dont think they will because the phone will not get 3G, instead it will only get EDGE or wifi.

Also, where is a guide or some site that will help me know how to use this phone....I have been an iPhone guy, never used a blackberry before until now. Thx.

I'll try to answer your question(s) the best I can.

Do you know how to find out if a BlackBerry device is locked or unlocked, simply type on the device's keypad, mepd in lower case letters, via SIM Card (View and change SIM card settings).

Charles, no mobile carrier can force you to get a BlackBerry data package on your BlackBerry Storm 2 9550 device, regardless if the device is locked or unlocked, but they can suggest if they want.

If you're leaving one mobile carrier for another, remember this... without a data plan, there is only so much that you can do, which isn't all that bad.

You have Bluetooth v2.1, WiFi 802.11 b/g with WPA / WPA2 Personal and Enterprise encryption (which can also connect to BES or BIS) when the time comes that you wish.
