unlocked storm 2 blackberry but problem with data services. keeps on going back to "edge"

    Hello,

I m using BB Storm2 9550 with DU, UAE. It is Unlocked from Verizon. I have done everything but still m not able to use BB services though I can call/text anybody. i.e. I still have "edge" rather then "EDGE"......

Any Help how can we unlock DATA services????

I have used the same service provider"DU" for months. and this works perfectly on my old balckberry.

Also I have used the following method suggested in another forum but still no success.
    "Go to:
Options, advanced options, TCP and uncheck everything listed there.

    Then
Manage connections, mobile network options, select 2g only!

    Then
Options, advanced options, host routing table. Hit the menu button and select register now.

You may have to turn off and on your mobile connection after that a few times after that. But give it a few mins and you should see EDGE."

Initially it turns to GSM then turns to edge. But not EDGE. Tried the above procedure million times.

    Please please please help!!

We've had a few inquiries with Storm 2 devices not working in India. I heard something about old numbers not being support for BlackBerry data any longer. Call your service provider to see if this is the case. Let us know what happens.

I remember I had a situation where my friend was using a BlackBerry Curve 8520 device, which was also unlocked to work with any carrier.
The issue he had experienced was exactly the same as yours, he could not recieve all of the features he paid for from a different carrier.
We tried several solutions, but to no avail.

    Until one day......

    The answer?

I simply backup up his Curve 8520, removed his GSM SIM card from the phone, wiped it completely, inserted the GSM SIM card back into the phone.
Re-installed an official OS for his Curve 8520 (don't forget to search & delete all Vendor.xml files), and wouldn't you know it, everything was working perfectly.

All data which was not previously working for the same device, was now working for his Curve 8520.

Maybe you need to wipe the device, wipe it completely, to give it a brand new official OS.

Let us know what the outcome is of your situation

    Hi grimreaper,

I have no idea how to do that. Do I have to give it to an Blackberry expert. Is there a site showing step by step how to delete and put a new OS.
    Appreciate your inputs!

Joe, my sim is working fine on old Blackberry. So I think it is not the problem with service provider.

You don't have to give your device to a BlackBerry expert, you can do it yourself, by following these links provided below.

    Hi grimreaper,

Sorry if I sound naive. I'm not a tech savy person.
please confirm if i have to do the above steps in the order mentioned by you post.
    like
    Step 1
. Backing Up Your Devices Main Information Using Desktop Manager.
    Step 2. then Downloads: AppalachianWireless_9550_5.0.0.1082
Step 3. then remove all vendor. xml files.

Where's the step where we get the new OS for my device. or is it the one covered in step2?
    Please confirm.

It's ok SGMG, #1 is always to back up your device, I highly recommend that.
Down the latest OS Update for your 9550, install it, look for the vendor.xml file(s), and update the device via USB cable.
    Sit back, and watch
