I think if people travel internationally, and have an unlocked storm, it's cheaper to buy a local sim card, and fill up minutes....cause vzw just charges too much IMHO.

Hey Fletch... you only need the SIM card if you are traveling overseas. If you are in the States the SIM is irrelevant. But if you want to take advantage of cheap overseas prices, you would take your SIM card and replace with a local SIM card.

Have you had your account with VZW longer than 60 days?

If not click the GSM-Unlocking link in my signature and they will get the job done for you.

Unlocked is a little different that JailBroke. Unlocked is so you can use the device on another network, jailbroke is what gets you out of the software network designed by apple. By jailbreaking an IPhone it allows you to access software from a couple of sources and within these sources (Cydia, Installer) there is a multitude of free software to use. Hope this clarifies the difference.

OK, maybe it has already been explained but I would like to be certain because I'm going in Colombia in september and I want to know what will be my advantages.

First question: When putting a SIM card from another carrier, does it change your phone number with one this carrier attach to the card?

Second question: If no, when people will call me on my usual phone number will I pay local time only with the SIM card carrier?

Maybe I will have more questions later. BTW I'm on Telus in Canada

Yes it will change your phone number attached to the SIM card. So if someone calls your normal number you will not get it with the local SIM card.
