how to you tell if you are given a refurb phone.?

Well tell us if it in the Original Box or a Brown Box or how you got it...

Most carriers will give you a brand new one within the first 30 days. After that they are always refurbished.

There is no physical way of checking the device. The carriers do not send the black Blackberry box with refurbs.

The vzw store that sent to me just sent me a phone and a bettery in a box that shipped it.

I don't think VZW has refurbed phones phones yet so I am pretty sure it was a new one. Also, if it was refurbed, they don't send you another battery.

So if you go to the store to exchange and they let you keep your battery then it is a refurb? I only ask because I just went through this.

I am going to have to go out on a limb here and say a few things... First off you more than likely did get a refurb. otherwise you would have been asked to return everything and you would have gotten back everything= new phone.

lastly if you really want to know, call VZW CS and ask them to transfer you to RIM using their carrier code so you won't have to pay for the tech support call.
Once you get them they are going to ask for the PIN and when they do ask them straight out if this PIN has ever been registered before, they have to tell you.

To save on the accessories. Those cost money.

Yes VZW has refurbs that is what they sent me originally until I pointed out I was within my 30 days.

Here is my experience I am on my third tour the first replacement was done in store out of new box so I knew it was new. Last week trackball went screwy and VZW said we have no refurbs in stock so you get a new one sent me an entire box just like the day I bought it. Called to get wife's replaced same story new in the box on the way.

i have had to replace my sons storm 3 times. the first was right after we got it,verizon replaced it with a brand new one. the second was from asurion and they sent a refurb. the third was from asurion and it was a brand new one. with all three i was told to keep all the accessories and send back the phone by itself.

FYI Asurion does not have Brand New phones they are a third party insurance company.
