Switching registered/purchased app to the Tour

This is more of a general app question so moderators, please move to the appropriate forum if necessary.

I'm entertaining the thought of getting the Tour today, I'm in the west coast and the VZW stores do not open until 11am but I'm wide awake at 9am... haha

I purchased quite the amount of apps on my Storm. I know certain developers will allow you to switch the registration to a new crackberry but not all and someone limit the times one can do so. Can people who have successfully transferred over apps to a new BB chime in as to what apps? There are also apps that allow you to change it yourself such as Smrtguard and Tetherberry, both of which I highly recommend. :)

Also, App World should work for the most if not all apps that do not require registration codes as you would download them directly into your bb after logging in your App World paypal account.

Looks like some developers actually allow you to switch registered PIN's yourself. Bellshare (developers of BerryWeather and BerryBuzz) has instructions on their own site. I suggest everyone check with the developer's site to see what their policy is. :) I love answering my own questions... keeps me sane... hahaha... sorry everyone :P

If you go to our mobi hand store and click support, then my account it will list all the apps you have purchased here and at CB. At the top of that list there is a switch PIN link. Mobi allows you to do this once after that you will have to email them and they will switch all your pin registered apps to your new pin.

True Bryan but a lot of apps are storm specific, so wouldn't we have to wait till tour versions come out? :)

Well of course :) I wouldn't assume anyone would try to put a theme for their storm on the tour? But you never know..so good point

Yeah I was wondering that as well. I really like QL but at 5. Bucks a pop not sure if its worth it for both devices.

I believe QL should work on the Tour :)

I believe there is a thread where randrkelly was frustrated because bb app world would only allow 3 downloads before repurchase. I believe he was doing that on just new os changes.

Really I don't recall how often I redownloaded mine but it actually may not have been more than 3x so I dunno but I guess I'll find out now since I just go the Tour... :P

To avoid having the to request a redownload each time, what I do, is download the jad file trough the ota loader, save them in my sd card, made a doc with the activation codes for each one, saved them in my sd card and I don't have to worry about it every time I need to wipe or some like that.

Now on topic, almost all the developers will allow you to switch the pin, and that Bryan suggestion works too...

I'm curious though, if you switch the PIN, wouldn't the old key still work for the old PIN? That would increase the resale value of the old BB but a small amount.. :P I know some developers actually have you register through their site such as the developers of the Ace Email Viewer app.

Nope they won't :( I have tried it before and it was a no go

That's a great idea e. I'm gonna try that. I know what Bryan is sayin though. When I got a new phone the other day and I swapped pins they changed my activation codes.

So I switched my Tour and submitted a request to change my PIN and Mobihand did it within a few hours which was nice. Everything is working now.
