OS 5.0 problems with MMS - Need serious help

    Ok, this is the problem:

When using an official 4.7... i don't have any problems whatsoever on two different Tour phones, on Alltel.

Once I've upgraded to and 5.0 OS, or hybrid 5.0 OS, ALL my MMS pics that I receive are saved as small thumbnails.

Has anyone experienced this, or knows how to fix this? As soon as I downgrade back to 4.7, problem gone.

I've done complete removals of the DM, and device software, deleted anything associated with RIM from the computer. Did a complete wipe of the phone with BBSAK. Then I reinstalled the DM software, then 5.0.0.419 (used to be .230), then rebooted the computer (rebooted computer after uninstall too). Loaded the OS onto the phone. No dice. MMS pics still saved as small icons.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would try another 5.0 operating system for that device.
This one just leaked out for the Tour last night....

Leaked: OS 5.0.0.419 for the Tour 9630!

This is the download from our server.
    Download 9630_5.0.0.419

Yea, I did that last night. It didn't help. Maybe it's just something with Alltel, until an official version for Alltel comes out? I can't think, for the life of me, what else it could be.

I would like to see some screen shots of what you are talking about.

Possibly some before and after shots might help to shed some light on the issue....

To go along with that when you open an mms hit the menu key and see if there is an option for download attachment or get attachment.. then see if the pic comes up any better

Give me a few mins... restoring some apps, and then i'll get some screen grabs up there.

As far as downloading attachments, etc., no. That's not an option. Just "save image" shows up. I'll also post a screen of the options. It's frustrating to say the least lol. Couple mins.. brb

Here are two screens of a pic I sent myself, just for testing purposes. Images sent from other phones are the same way. The first pic is what it looks like when you open it after being saved to the phone. The second pic is what it looks like when I opened the MMS.

    This pic was sent as 1024 x 768 ....

when I try so send an MMS I can chose the size of the picture: original, large, medium and small...this menu then asks, if this setting should be applied automatically on all following pics...maybe that's the issue here, set to small for all pics?

Tried that too. I have it set to ask each time. I always send at least 1024 x 768 or larger. If I send the pic to myself, and my wife, her phone receives the pic just fine (HTC Pro), and I receive the small pic like you see above. So it is sending the pic out as the proper size.

Strange. Is there a BB MMS size (byte wise) receiving limitation?

I am sure there is, however, this only happens on a 5.0 OS for me. If I go back to 4.7, I get the pics just fine. I also updated another Tour and it too has the same issue.

It is really strange, MMSed a picture to my BB by creating a new MMS and inserting a picture, 600 k , a warning came, that it was too large and it was not sent (empty MMS) - shrunk it to ~ 150k, it was sent out well, but what I received was a 40 k picture afterwards...

The size has nothing to do with the BB.. My wife send the original siz pics(the largest) back and forth between her curve and my s2 just fine. It may be the OS causing the issue but its not because of the size of the original pic, it will affect the videos you send though. I would try seeing if there is a receive more, or download attachment option in there some where... or even try highlighing and then clicking the trackball on it.

    Ok, sent a 1024 x 768 pic @ 161KB to my BB.

    Here are the results.

The end result, the same as all the others. I save the pic, and when I view it's just a little icon. You can tell when it comes in, it's small because it's only 29K. It was sent out at 161KB.

I tried sending the pic directly from the media folder, same issue here, starts with MMS size of ~ 110 k and is received as ~ 40 k file no matter what... could it be a carrier issue?

That's the only thing I can think of at this point. Are you with Alltel as well?

nope, it's Vodafone - but it is limited to some other extent as well: e.g. no streaming media allowed (which I am not missing so far, especially re. the low monthly costs ) )
