    The death of OS 7

    Dear friends,

What's your opinion of the old OS for Torch 9850/9860? Is it discontinued? or forgotten by blackberry since OS 10 is the new kids on the block now.

    Regards,

    Madmanmoon

I think the os for the Torch is still a great os! In some ways, it's (in my opinion) better than os10. BB10 is an awesome os, but lacks the customizable features of our legacy devices. And with tens of millions of legacy users and the constant native app updates (there's a new Facebook beta!) , it will be with us for years to come.

Its not dead, but slowly, BlackBerry will transition over to BlackBerry 10. When? I don't know, but they will continue to support legacy users during the transition. The torch is an amazing device.
Thanks for visiting and enjoy using your BlackBerry!
Please my post if it has helped you. Much appreciated!

Also, there's a new BB7 device coming out soon.

BlackBerry 7 isn't dead quite yet. And as mentioned already, there are features in OS7 missing from BB10. Most notably for me, data compression is now gone - and I've got to say that I really feel that one each month.

I for one am glad it's not dead. The company I work for has been moving users from BB to Android, but there has been some talk that they may adopt BYOD. If that happens I would choose to go to a OS7 device.

My view is that there is a best tool for each use case: cellular handsets for calling and short messaging, wi-fi enabled tablets for mobile web access, and desktop PCs for the full range of computing. The OS7 handset is still - to me at least - a superb tool for calls and messages.
