Thread: Weird Problem. Phone deleting randomn texts??!!

Ok..so ever since I got this 9850 it has selectively chosen a few of my contacts that it will not store there incoming sms messages. It stores all my sent messages to them.. but as soon as they send a new text the previous one is deleted!!!

It only does this with like 6 contacts.. all the rest are saved as they should be.

Can anyone please help me?

I have done a hard reset. And I have deleted all the info and started on a fresh reboot as well by doing the ##768 method.

Is there a way to delete the OS and reinstall it maybe..

What OS are you running? Your user info still says Storm 2. Once you tell me the OS I'll be able to recommend an newer version that may alleviate your problem.

Whichever OS came originally installed on it. 7.0 I think for some reason

OK, you can go to this 9850 OS page, 9850/9860 Operating Software, and choose the newest OS to download to your PC. Then go here, All In One Guide - How To Upgrade Your Device - with Pictures & Videos , for great instructions on installing an OS that is not one released by your carrier.&lt;br&gt;<br>

Ok, thank you ghost. I chose the US cellular file..went through all the steps and wouldnt you know it...no luck!

Still deleting texts as it sees fit.

May be time to call your carrier.

I don't think it is deleting them i think it is putting like text in one file try this open the message folder then go to options, message display , display style , set it on single messages & save.

Why would it only do it for 6 contacts that i've never set any preferences for?

I checked in the options and single is what it's set to.

Have you tried deleting one of the problem contacts and then adding them again?

Yes. And renaming them

My messages were disappearing and what my phone was doing if i had several message from the same source once i read them they are all in the same stack with the last one received as the one showing up in my message box but when i click on the last message after it had been readed then all the message were their in that stack. Sorry if that didn't work for you.

Ok.. now I'm lost. I got a new phone under warranty. I was sure it would resolve the issue. And after restoring this unit from DM it has the same issues!!!!!

I have went over the options menus a thousand times. I even went as far as to check ' confirm deletion' for each text and it still deletes random peoples incoming texts!!

That is extremely weird.

I have a couple of questions and a suggestion:

Do these 6 people whose text messages get deleted have anything in common between each other? For example, are they all on a certain carrier (like AT&T or Sprint) or a certain type of carrier (All GSM), or do they all have Droids or iPhones.

Also, when you first bought this new phone, did you get a new number? I ask this because a little while ago I had a similar problem and it ended up being that the prefix 337 (the first 3 numbers of my new number) was not recognized as a cell phone by other carriers so the text messages would get to me and be instantly deleted because their phones thought they were texting a landline instead. I fixed that issue by having to change my number unfortunately.

Suggestion:

It obviously sounds like something is being restored when u use the DM onto the device that's causing this issue. The only thing I could think of is to use BlackBerry Protect (go to BlackBerry Protect on your device to download it if it's not already on your device) to back up certain parts of your device. In the Options menu in BlackBerry Protect select to back up everything but Text Messages.

Once that's done, wipe the device completely and test out that the random deleting text message problem is gone like when you first got the second device from your carrier.

If the problem doesn't present itself after a complete wipe, use BlackBerry Protect to restore your address book and other info. Hopefully a setting doesn't transfer over using Protect that might transfer over if you used the DM instead.
