use my torch as modem

I want to use my torch and connect to my laptop to get the free internet instead of paying for it at the hotel or airport since I am already paying for an unlimited data plan. I know there is way to do it and use my phone as a modem but I keep getting is error message:

Buddy....In addition to data plan, you need an addl plan 'Tethered modem'' or by whatever name your operator calls it..
Unltd data plan works only with browsing & doesn;t allow you to use phone as a modem--atleast in India..

unlimited data plan in my country and i use my torch as a modem via DTM
i just input my provider's APN under a new profile and i'm in there like swimwear
